Re: Right Tackle

I liked the rookie. I was very, very impressed to not hear his name as the game progressed. That's the sign of a successful offensive lineman. Id rather see the rookie use this year to grow into the backup he'll probably be for his career. And starting reps will give him the experience he needs.

Re: Right Tackle

It's gonna be Wade (Redskins Insider if not already posted somewhere) from this point on.. I think that's probably a good thing, he's a veteran, typically plays RT, lets Heyer remain as quality depth at both OT positions..

Re: Right Tackle

i was really impressed with Wades play last season. Heyer gives the skins some depth. did an OK job after being rushed into playing

Re: Right Tackle

Yep. The only reason Wade didn't replace Jansen yesterday was because Wade was inactive, partly because of the sore shoulder, but mainly because the Skins didn't think they'd need him. The shoulder thing is minor, and now that the Skins know they'll need him, he'll be the starter.

There's no way Stephon Heyer could ever be considered a better choice at RT than Todd Wade. RT is exactly where Wade belongs - and to be truthful - I see no downgrade going from Jansen to Wade.

It's just our T depth is thin now. Heyer is an adequate backup, but I don't want him starting. Did we notice how absent Cooley was yesterday? That's because he was helping Heyer in pass protection. We need him running routes, so we need Wade to hold his own.

Re: Right Tackle

So who's the best tackle to sign after Jansen goes on IR? Or are we just going to resign Calvin Armstrong?

Good post, Schneed--I completely agree. Hopefully Heyer will continue to develop, but right now, it's Wade, IMO.

Re: Right Tackle

I don't think it will be Heyer, but after listening to the Gibbs press confrence, I am not sure. I think either way we have more depth than ever. They wont get another tackle it will be another guard. They already were carring to many tackles.

Re: Right Tackle

If you go by what Gibbs said in his press conference then I would definitely say that Heyer is starting, but you never know. I think since he did such a great job we should put him in there next week. If he really starts to slump we have the luxury of Todd Wade.

Re: Right Tackle

Bugel told Channel 4 here in Washington earlier tonight that Wade would probably be the guy, but they hadn't discussed it as a staff.

Re: Right Tackle

I think saying that Wade sucks is way off base. I am not sure who will start. Wade has a torn laburnum. Wade did not suck in Miami or Texas. He just never played as well as they thought he would. He is only 30. Three years ago hear tore his knee up and he was paid big time, so they cut him in Texas, at 27 years old. Tackles are just reaching their prime at that age. He fought thought it and he is starter material. From what I am hearing he probably will need surgery after the season is over(just my own insight into the injury). That is the reason he is not the hands down starter. I also think Heyer has been great. I will trust what ever decision Gibbs makes.

Re: Right Tackle

i think Wade will start if healthy - he did a good job last year when he went in -- however, Heyer held his own yesterday considering he had NEVER played right - i think time and development will turn Stephon into a fixture on that line
