Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Carlos has been playing very well. He hasn't shown anything that would have me believe that he has what it takes to be elite, but he is going to end up being a very good corner and very good cornerbacks don't grow on trees.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Carlos has been playing better than all of our corners IMO. he looks like a 1st round pick. Sure he's not getting 6 or 7 picks a season but come on, he'll grow by the time he needs to become a #1 corner.
So far, he is having his best year. He hasn't dropped picks or missed many tackles. If anything, he has been a soild tackler. Why would you start this thread???? |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
every team in the NFL would take CR. He may be a #2 CB but he would be one of the top #2 CBs. The bigger question is what to do when he is up for free agency. CBs make bundles and I don't know if he'll be worth whatever contract he gets.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Too many vague statements here... "he's pretty good" or "he's not a flop." Come on now. Look at his technique. Rogers is one of the more aggressive corners in the league - look how he flies up to flatten receivers on lateral passes. His initial aggressiveness also bites the d in the ass when he hesitates a bit like in the NY game covering Plaxico.
And that gets to the biggest problem w/ Rogers and why he'll probably NEVER be a #1 corner: Rogers rarely has an eye for the ball and his receiver. His pick happened because he was standing back far enough to see QB and receiver (and he was in Kitna's blind spot). But when Rogers is defending a pass he almost always watches the receiver, which means he'll have relatively few picks over the span of his career and will allow some catches that should have been batted away. This is basically the first thing guys who have been around the league forever judge corners on. You'll see the very best corners watch the ball and "sense" the receiver nearby w/o getting called for PI. Watching the ball yields better pass defense and more INTs. It's pretty simple. |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
I think that Rogers is close to being a very good corner. He dropped a ton of INTs last year, which tells me that at least he was in position to make plays. I believe that his biggest problem is locating the ball when he makes a defensive play. That will improve over time. While I don't believe that he'll be a pro bowler, Rogers will be a competent CB in this league for years.

Yes, with an O-Line built out of bubble gum and bailing wire, a WR corps decimated with hammy and groin injuries, and two beat-up RB's, what to do with a productive member of the secondary that's gone from among the worst in the NFL to among the best in just 5 games this year...

Hate to be negative...
Rogers is a first round BUST! OVERRATED and OVERPAID!!! Love the Redskins, but Carlos doesn't challenge receivers at the line and gets burned easily with the pumpfake. I say trade Rogers asap!

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
You have to run the play called. Against the Lions, clearly the best D effort of the year, they were straight zone all afternoon and gave up the first five yards on almost every play. If CR had challenged receivers at the line he would have been out of position and given up a big play. I'd rather win games than make a fan who doesn't know the play call happy.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Carlos isn't that good. I'd probably start Smootie over this fella. You guys are tryin to argue he's only had 2 mistackles.. remember one mistackle costed us the game. Also.. if you wrap urself around someone, u gotta bring them down. I doubt this guy will even get close to Spring's talent level anytime soon. After Springs retires, we definitely will need to find a true #1 CB.

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
good cover corners are hard to come by in this league. so far, Rogers has been pretty good. hopefully he will continue to develope. so the skins can work on getting line help for both sides of the ball

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Anyone who thinks CR is bad just doesn't know what they are talking about. Is he the best CB in the league? No. Among them? No. Is he a starter for every team in the league? Just about. He is an above average CB who would be hard to replace through free agency without breaking the bank. We clearly have bigger needs when it comes to FA.

As for Rogers, I've been pretty critical of the guy, but he has stepped it up this year. He probably should have had a pick six on the play to Burress, but he didn't, then he compounded the problem by missing the tackle, it was an all around bad play. He had another blunder against Green Bay, however, I think he has played a lot better this season than last. He's starting to come around to where he has been defending passes. He already has 5 pass defenses this year and one pick that he took back to the house. I'm seeing a lot of improvement in his game this season. |

Re: What to do with Carlos Rogers????
Judging by what GW thinks of him Carlos is fine and isn't going anywhere...hopefully he'll improve over time.
