I'm curious, what did you expect to happen when Gibbs resigned? Did you think nothing would change? A coordinator would step right in and keep the status quo? I'm sorry but changes were inevitable, and I think Snyder is making the best of a situation he wasn't prepared to face this offseason.

I agree that there was gonna be change, and at first I was impressed with Snyder's patience, but now I'm not so sure. I mean the man has thrown around offers to a couple of retreads, allowed the fans to influence his HC decision, and sabotaged and legitimate chance to hire anyone but Fassel because of the hiring of his coordinators. On top of that, there doesn't seem to be a clear plan in place in what they are looking for; looking at a DC coordinator who runs a 3-4. Now there are rumors leaking that Danny and Vinny are chomping at the bits for Chad Johnson, and have even brought it up in the interviews!!

I am becoming less optimistic about this by the minute. I'd like to give DS the benefit of the doubt, but Im not sure he has earned that. His past, and the lack of methodology to his approach, makes me feel incredibly apprehensive about the next coaching era.

If he let fans influence his HC decision then GW would have benn HC. What you said makes no sense.

Couldn't agree more Oakland Red. Mooch is the only choice in my opinion. But I must remind ya that Gregg Williams was the ONLY REAL choice in my opinion. There is now talk about the new hires making everyone accountable... Well why wasn't that done in the first place?

Coming back from a large deficit in the playoffs (I think 2002) and beating the Giants seals the deal for me. I've seen them coach quite a bit living in SF and I'm sure Oakland Red also has seen Mariucci coach. MOOCH, MOOCH!!!

I have seen him coach, and I used to strongly dislike the 49ers, but when he became the coach, after awhile I saw a team that in spirit reminded me of Joe Gibbs' Redskins in some ways. And I found myself pulling for them when it didn't affect the Redskins.

Mariucci is a special coach.

I'm sure Jim Fassel is a fine man. We need someone with a special capacity for inspiration given the upheavel.

As far as what I would have expected, I would have expected we stay with the same offensive system, to allow the team to continue its definite progress with Al Saunders' approach, and I expected we would make a real run at the Super Bowl next season.

I expected that Gregg Williams would have a chance to coach the team and, with his strong and positive relationship with the players, take the team to the next level, building on the strong foundation that Joe Gibbs left.

I would not have expected that we tear up the offensive structure, going from a number based system (Coryell/Gibbs) to a word based system (Brown/Walsh) and expect the team to learn an entirely new football language, a team, further, whose players have not only been playing in the current general system for a long time, Saunders' version of it for two years, but whose talents would seem to best fit the current system.

I would not have expected the team be torn up right after the beautiful way that everyone came together to honor Sean Taylor, coming through the tragedy with a grace and grit that no team has ever shown in the face of such sadness. And Gregg Williams was a very big part of that.

Fortunately Rex Ryan was not available, or we would not have Greg Blache as defensive coordinator, who will give the team continuity with the system on defense.

Those are some of the things I expected.

Don't get me wrong, I love Grimm and would have loved him as a HC with the Skins. DS is looking for someone with HC experience, That why they will select either Fassel or Mooch.

I do not think there is a difference in what they have achieved but their philosophies are rather different...
Fassel is as conservative as Gibbs if not more...
Mooch will bring a version of the west coast offense and may bring a more excited style of ball to DC.

Is one more destined to succeed? No, but in the years after, will we be better off I think so...

I also think that Mooch is much more candid with everyone...I feel comfortable that if Mooch is the HC he will do the best he can. Fassel just does not make me feel as if he will be able to carry the weight of football in DC!

I know this sounds crazy but do you think it is possible that Fassel would get the job for a year, after that he would be released so the Skins could pursue Cowher? I think it would be far easier to get rid of Fassel than Mooch. The majority of Skins fans are already ready for Fassel to be fired after next season.

Why would that be,the assumption Cowher would come here kills me.If the Carolina Job is open there is a 125% chance he'll go there.Lets not forget people are taking themselves 'off' the Skins list for reasons not told.
