Macklin obviously wasn't activated for a reason. He either couldn't get the playbook down or he wasn't very good.

As for Eubanks and Torrence, I'd rather put a dude in a wheelchair out there on the corners instead of those two.

What I was saying was we don't have any backups that are worth a damn.

I find it highly unlikely that we would have been able to sign a guy like Trufant (who wants upwards of $20M guaranteed and $9-$10M per year) and still go after other decent free agents. I prefer the approach we are likely to take, whether by choice or not. That is, I prefer going after guys like Hackett and Florence and using all of our draft picks to find 2-4 good, young, and cheap players who can step into starting roles within a year or so.

I agree hopefully we don't have to see our backups starting but that goes for the oline, dline, lb's.

Springs only will be w/ the team one more year, so we do have some time. Trufant would require alot of $. So, I think our CB situation isn't too bad...depending on when Rogers will be healthy.
were we watching the same guy? he couldnt cover me, and im 46 years old

Nnamdi and Trufant are off the open market...so I guess Asante Samuel could be the first NFL player to land a 9 figure free agent deal in NFL history.

You don't need elite players at every position. This isn't Madden. Our corner depth will be fine once we bring in Florance. After that we can use the draft to focus on DL and OL.

If we had the cap room then I would welcome Trufant with open arms, but thats not the case.

No Trufant no problem.
No... We dont have any decent backups... At all. Smoot or Springs (aka Mr. Cruthces) goes down. We are f@cked...

That Trufant thing hurts. But I hope we snag a PTPer in the 1st-3rd round.

Dang...

SGG - I feel exactly the same way. If you look back at recent history when the Skins made the playoffs they were generally very quiet at free agency and when the went bonkers and broke the bank for a lot of big names they didn't have too much success and didn't make the playoffs.

Yeah the Skins won't win the offseason free agency championship, but in my opinion just spending a lot of money and bringing in big name free agents is not going to automatically make you a Super Bowl contender or even quialify your team for the playoffs.

Sometimes I feel that it is easy to just say "go get the biggest name out there", but why not put some faith in your scouts and player personnel people and go out and find the hidden gems? That way you can give your salary cap some repreive, not have to shell out massive signing bonuses and if the player does not work out you can cut him and not look back or have to keep him on the roster to deal with dead cap (Brandon Llyod).

Please don't let it be here.

This draft has a decent number of quality CBs, if we can't get a stud DE or DT at 21, then go with CB in the 1st, DL in the 2nd.

The great thing about our spot is we have a ton of options at a great price. We can take the Guard Brandon Albreight, who could possibly reach Steve Hutchinson level during his career, we could take Calias Campbell whos tasted what its like to be an elite pass rusher, Kenny Phillips a great safety pospect from the U, or we could possibly have Malcom Kelly fall to us. Personally I think our problem is that we have to many options.

I agree, not a bad position to be in tho. Actually having 6 of 7 picks and a draft with quality players to fill key needs.

we weren't going to spend a ton on a CB anyways. DE/stud WR are much bigger needs, and our cap room isn't enough to keep up with other clubs right now.

Believe me, I wish I wanted Hall to play here. He's a native Virginian too, so he's local.
