I'm surprised you got Dave Butz to smile, when I met him (ironically a few months after the superbowl XXII win), he about ripped my head off!
Butz was always stoic. But, he was just the nicest guy that night. I'd never met him before then, and it was a REAL treat!

He was in Fredericksburg last summer... he was really cool. If you were getting a mini helmet signed, he asked if he was the only one who was going to sign it... if you answered yes, he signed both sides so you could face it either way and see the autograph.

I have to give another shout-out to the good folks at PSGameGear Sports, who sponsored the event. PSGameGear boasts a full line of autographed memorabilia and other items from every major sport. The store at Dulles Town Center is INCREDIBLE and I highly recommend you visit it if you're ever out there. You also can visit them on the Web at Welcome Page.

That sounds like something he would do. Man, they just don't have athletes like these guys anymore. Let me tell you a story. I was talking to Reggie Branch at the party -- it's SOOOOO cool to say that! He told me that he LOVED his teammates because they were all about the team instead of "getting theirs" like a lot of today's athletes. Indeed, you always felt connected to them because they WERE part of the community and they never thought twice about signing an autograph when asked, both Friday night and back during their playing days. That's what made the glory years that much more special. It wasn't just about the Redskins winning, but how those players went out of their way to include the fans. I'm proud to have lived through that and I'll NEVER forget that night!

lol.. their prices are through the roof. It looked like the Friday night thing was a good deal.... but the autograph tickets were just silly. Olkewics was 15 bucks in Feb down here... they had him at 25. They had Ricky Sanders at 30, he will be 20 next month down here. This store likes the mark up.

Yeah, that is ridiculous. I have a thing about paying for autographs, so while that Saturday event was intriguing, the prices were HORRIBLE! The Friday night event was MUCH better in that you get to interact more with the players, talk to them and take pictures. I'll never forget it!

He wasn't at the dinner party, but he did appear at the BIG autograph show the next day.

Like I said, I have a thing about paying for autographs. That's insane. Pictures mean more to me.
