Besides, for every Sean Payton out there (rookie coach that succeeds) there are many rookie coaches that won't succeed in their first season. People say that Zorn inherited a playoff team, but this is a playoff team with issues that were not necessarily addressed in the offseason (i.e. WRs). JC is not the QB that will make players around him better (unlike Payton Manning or Tom Brady) he needs good players around him, and right now our WRs group is the same as last year and are showing the same problems. The day that we replace our QB this year, is the day that we go into rebuilding mode. I don't think after 0-1 is that time to do it.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
It's actually on both Campbell and the receivers. The receivers have to run the precise routes, and Campbell has to learn to throw timing passes to spots. Zorn's been saying the whole time the Jason is waiting for the receiver to be open, and that's not how the west coast offense works. Couple that with Jason still not reading the defenses and it makes for a long learning curve.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
I agree. They don't want him to make a mistake instead everything is criticized for what he doesn't do. They need to back off a bit and let him figure things out. If anything, the playcalling was suspect. I guess that the coaches don't really trust Jason Campbell to run the offense and there is no reason not to. He should have been running a no hurry offense, down by 2 scores with under 8 to go in the 4th quarter. Instead he was told to huddle up and they executed to running plays? They needed to huddle to say run right? There should be some blame on Zorn here because there wasn't enough urgency with the pacing at the end. The line played substandard and the receivers dropping balls doesn't help matters much.

Zorn might even take a liking to that phrase, in JLC's latest blog he says that Zorn has never been a fan of the no huddle. When I read that I was thinking, 'are you a fan of not having enough time to score?' At the end of the half & game, the O was just too slow. |

I agree. If he had thrown some ints. I could see this point. Maybe he is slwo with his devlier because the WR aren't open...or Defenders are breathing down his back..or The play calls sucked..Maybe a dropped ball here and there.. It wasn't his best performance. But the whole team stunk..and when that happens its on the coach...atleast Blache stepped up the D in the second half. We need to run the ball on first down and get something going instead of having this pass first philosophy.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
Campbell was 15/27 for 133 yards and 1 TD. "The key to this game was third down efficiency. The Giants were sharp when it counted most, converting 7-of-14 for the game. On their four first-half scoring drives, they were even better, delivering on 5-of-8 third downs. On the flip side, the Giants' defense was just as dominant on third down, holding the Redskins to just three conversions in 13 attempts and forcing Campbell to throw short of the first-down marker repeatedly throughout the game" "Jim Zorn made his coaching debut for the Redskins and showed his West Coast offense still has a ways to go. The Redskins had only 174 total yards and only 98 through the air. ..." All this = Not good. Pathetic may be strong. But it was definitely bad.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
What Jamie Dukes pointed out is the inept offensive play calling on third down conversions. There is no way Jim Zorn will be successful with the playcalling he defended when asked by Sonny Jergenson. Two plays were called for Cooley and we were off side on both of them." Two plays to Cooley? Where was Ladell Betts and Mike Sellers to offset the tempo of the running game? Zorn should allow the running game to develop and then have the receivers run beyond the first down marker to have more success. Jason Campbell has to erase eight seasons of different offensive coordinators and stop locking in on one receiver. This was the worst performance I have seen for a first time coach for the Redskins. Spurrier wasn't this bad.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
There's much more to it than the play of your QB. JC didn't look great tonight, but name me someone who did who wasn't returning kicks. JC gets a pass in my book until it becomes obvious that he is the weakest link.

Re: JC is not what I thought.
None of them were great.
Portis had an awesome block on one of their DEs, and also a per carry average of below 4. If you're going to say the line wasn't blocking, then that also has to carry over to JC's performance. Not great. Fletcher was all over the field as usual, but I saw a couple of missed tackles and a few times where he was overmatched. Nothing great from him tonight. The only great thing Brooks was involved in tonight was when Jerome McDougal ran into him. He was rather unspectacular otherwise. Short(ish) punts, and no boomers. Good hangtimes, though. Not great.
