Congrats to Horton! Now if we can only get Kareem Moore to start taking Doughty's reps we'll be good.

Well deserved, I think it's amazing to think that Vinny and co. found this guy in the 7th round and look at how far he's come today. NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month! Congrats to Horton and congrats to the coaching staff for all the work they've put in with him too.

I think Horton fell so far in the draft because a lot of teams had concerns about his wrist. In college he had a pretty bad wrist injury and the doctors weren't sure if he would ever regain full range of motion in his wrist. Have it not been for the injury concern Horton may have been a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Gotta give Vinny credit especially when most of us don't mind dishing out crap to him. Kareem Moore and Chris Horton are going to be mid to late round gems, just like Golston and Montgomery were. That's 4 finds for Vinny in later rounds.

Good points, but then again finding those late round gems is one of the reasons Vinny is criticized- i.e. his willingness (some may call it eagerness) to trade picks for veteran players.

Vinny has not been the sole decision maker regarding player acquisition. From what I understand it's typically been a 3 headed monster of Snyder, Cerrato and the head coach. It seems to me that now Vinny's voice might be a little stronger than it had been in the past especially with the influence of a certain famous head coach. The Jason Taylor deal might have been a little pricey in terms of draft picks, but the way he justified it was #1, we lost two defensive ends in one day and the move was necessary, and #2, your getting a six time pro bowler who they feel is still very much at the top of his game and your trading picks which are not guaranteed to pan out at all. With the exception of Horton, the jury is still out on this years draft but if the past few years drafts were any indication were looking good for the future.

You know, I was thinking: Horton's interceptions may be hiding his overall play on the field, while Carlos Rodgers' failure to catch interceptions are hiding his. Maybe we can get Dr. Andrews to perform a hand transplant between the two?

there's nothing like learning at our and the 49ers expense. it's about time he stopped screwing it up. it's probably more his scouts then him anyways.

thread related---horton is benefitting from sound defensive coaching, and being surrounded by smart talent.

Don't forget Heyer (undrafted rookie free agent, Maryland) who beat out Jon Jansen. Guys like this are the real gems.

Well deserved. Hope he keeps this level of play up for this season and many to come. Great job to Vinny and the Scouts for finding this kid.

Here's good article on him from ESPN:

ESPN - Redskins' seventh-rounder Horton a quick study - NFC East
