Add me to the bandwagon, I like us to trade down and get Mack and the best available LB, like a Clay Matthews.

Re: Draft Thoughts - The Post-Haynesworth Edition

if they dont trade down to pick up more draft picks then at #13 you take the best offensive lineman on the board.

Re: Draft Thoughts - The Post-Haynesworth Edition

I want Aaron Curry. Two months ago it looked like he'd be bottom half of the 1st round but now it's looking top 3. I think he is the only "can't miss" in the draft and plays a position of need.
Trade up with Detroit and take him. This year's 1st and 3rd round picks and next year's 2nd round. Detroit needs help at so many spots it would make sense for them and we'd get, IMO, a decades worth of Pro Bowls from the OLB position. Plus, after making the biggest splash in FA we'd also have the biggest splash in the draft.

Hes a great player, but keep in mind that the higher the pick, the more money they're due to make, plus we can get another decent SLB later in the first/ second round (but you could say the same for RTs as well, IMO) i would go RT in the first, because next year there will be a few good LBs to choose from wereas with OT's I can only think of one off the top of my head... Brandon spikes of Florida I think will be a beter pro than curry, so I think we could stay/trade down from where we are ... Plus we have HB blades and Jason Taylor who can replace marcus for this year if nothing works out come draft time

Keep in mind that mack would have to learn the schemes and how to pickup blitzs etc. Which would take a while, and seeing that we're built for this year, we can't be fooling around with a rookie center, plus I don't think he'd play that much this year anyway so it be a rinehart type pick (sitting on the sidelines all season)... Yes I know what your gonna say, that he can play guard, but we just got dock, and homas I hink will still be here next year, so we need to draft a RT not exactly a center...right now...(we also need an OLB a lot more than a center)

Good luck making that deal. That would be the cheapest price for moving to number one of all time.

Guys like Phil Loadholt, Jamon Meredith, and Steven Beatty come to mind. I also think it's possible that they might have a deal where their trade down looks something like this

Redskins get
low to mid first round pick
low to mid second round Pick
trading teams fourth round pick

Trade Partner gets
Redskins 1st round pick
Redskins 3rd round pick

Sort of like how we ended up giving the Falcons our third round pick on top of our first.

Anyone have ideas on possible trade partners?
Going off the value chart it is kind of tricky to make your scenario work, just because the value of the 2nd's of the teams picking the in 20's does not give them enough value (by the chart) to move up to 13 and get that 3rd. The two perfect partners for the Skins are the Patriots (which will never happen) who have picks 23/47 and the Dolphins 25/44 (Redskins pick). If you add those picks then you are basically looking at enough value to move up to 13 and get a 5th back (but not the third). Basically any team in the 20's would have to give both their first and second to move up to 13, but the Skins would not have to include a 3rd. I just don't know if a team would see tremendous value in doing that. Depends on who falls to 13 I guess.

Most reviews of Mack have him starting as a rookie. The ideal situation would be to have him sit the first few games then start around the 5th or 6th game of the season. The middle of our defense just became VERY strong with the addition of Haynesworth. The addition of Mack would make our offense very strong up the middle as well. We could run up the middle and also have a pocket for Jason to step up into. I think there are a number of players who could fill the RT position. Having said that, I think right now our most likely pick would be Oher, Smith, or Orakpo.

The Lions have two picks in the 1st Round, #'s 1 and 20. If there is a player available at #13 that they feel they must have, then we could trade #13 for #20, the 1st pick in Round 3 (#65), and possibly the 1st pick in Round 6. That might be a nice deal for us.

Re: Draft Thoughts - The Post-Haynesworth Edition

I've been on record asking for line help. Now that we got AH and Dockery, I'm leaning towards a different direction with the 13 pick. If Rey is there, we should take him. He has the SOLID potential, make that likelihood, that he's going to be a special player. The team has the advantage now of being able to take a special player like Rey as opposed to what had been a more immediate need like OL.

Rey, in his own way, could turn into a Merriman type pick for us. He's a dominant player. Five years from now, look back and compare him to the other players we've considered at this spot. That's the choice.

Re: Draft Thoughts - The Post-Haynesworth Edition

With the signings we have made thus far, I don't see us having enough money to sign a player that we would sign at 13. However, I was watching Redskins Nation last night and Vinny said that even with the signings the 13th draft picks budget has already been put aside. I really impressed on how the Skins are able to manage the cap. It looks like we were the ones 61 mil below the cap. Anyway, I would definetly go after a LB with our first pick, we definetly have a need there, with London getting up and age and the loss of Marcus. I just can't see Blades filling that position. I think the signing of Dockery bought our line a little more time. However if we do go after a lineman, I would think the Center position is the most pressing need for the team right now.

Caponomics at the Park - Redskins 360 - Washington Redskins Blog - The Washington Times

If the Elfin article is accurate and we are done in FA I think we almost have to approach the draft like we're gonna pick two legit starters at RT and OLB.

To me then the key is getting a pick in the 2nd round via trade so a deal w/ the Lions makes sense... they get the 13th overall and we get their 1st and 2nd rd picks. If we have to sweeten the deal by giving them our last pick (6th round?) we ought to, again just to guarantee we get a shot at 2nd round talent.

... at 20, if all this works out, I think we would be really fortunate to get either Oher, A. Smith or Rey M. If any one of them is available it's an easy pick and then we take the other pos of need in the 2nd round. Anyway, I don't think Vinny can really take the BPA approach, which I thought was just some made-up bullshit from last year anyway. We have to get RT and OLB studs in the first 2 rounds.
