Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
Shit never studied about this guy closely. He missed games in 2 seasons with a bum knee huh? I think we need a tackle or guard more than a d linemen, but would be happy if we did get an impact DE to play opposite Haynesworth. I see this Orakpo thing as a 50/50 shot at best. The Big 12 is tough, but nothing compared to the gruelling 16 possibly more games played in the NFL. IF he can stay healthy he rocks. I did watch enough of him this past season to know he rocks, but damn, he missed time in 2 seasons with his knee? Snyder gambles way too much for my liking!!!!!

Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
Heard this too...initially i thought Monroe would be a "realistic" guy to grab if we traded up (even though Danny/Vinny wouldn't think so) but w/ the knee thing there's no way in hell I'd take him. I dunno to me it's like any top 10 or even top 15 pick should meet qualifications of elite prospect but also clean injury history. The injury thing just multiplies the bust factor that much more.

Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
...btw I luv the Smith highlights above. What gets me is how dominant he is in action, just mauling opponents AND NEVER, EVER GIVING UP so it seems. Oher's highlights on youtube are also very impressive but you do see him "searching" at times or just like something has confused him. But then in the combine/pro day drills i think Oher looks much more crisp and in far better shape than Smith. I know it's totally unlikely we won't get to choose between the two but I guess i'll be very pleased if we draft either guy.

Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
Smith is going to drop to us at #13. On the field he is nasty and I would be cool with the pick. As long as we don't trade up, take Sanchez, any RB, or undersized DE/LB.... I wont bitch too much..
Hmmm...I guess I like Smith/Oher/Rey/Orakpo/Jackson if we stay at #13 |

Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
Apparently there is a lot of doubt whether Orakpo can play in a 3-4. I've read from a few sources while speed and strength are adequate. He doesn't have the hips to cover. Better said, he is poor at major changes in direction. So he might have to play End in a 4-3.

A.Smith -(40) 5.28 -(Bch) 19 -(Vert) 25 -(Brd) 7'10" -(Sht) 4.93 -(3Cn) 7.88
J.Smith -(40) 5.09 -(Bch) 33 -(Vert) 24 -(Brd) 8'00" -(Sht) 4.69 -(3Cn) 7.53 E.Monroe -(40) 5.18 -(Bch) 23 -(Vert) 28.5 -(Brd) 9'02" -(Sht) 4.78 -(3Cn) 7.88 M.Oher -(40) 5.34 -(Bch) 21 -(Vert) 30.5 -(Brd) 8'07" -(Sht) 4.60 -(3Cn) 7.81 E.Britton -(40) 5.14 -(Bch) 24 -(Vert) 28.5 -(Brd) 8'04" -(Sht) 4.91 -(3Cn) 7.87 Out of these 5 OTs, A. Smith Grades -(40) 4th -(Bch) 5th -(Vert) 4th -(Brd) 5th - (Sht) 5th -(3Cn) 5th (tie) These ProDay numbers combined with blowing off the combine and his missing the Sugar Bowl for consulting an agent too early frankly scare me away from A. Smith. Questionable heart and work ethic IMO. If none of J. Smith, Monroe, Oher or Orakpo are there at 13, trading down with a team like Tampa Bay at 19 and getting Britton looks like an interesting option to look into IMO. Orakpo is still my guy, though. He missed one game last year with a bruised knee. No ligament damage. His film, conditioning, strength, speed, and combine grades all tell me he is a beast and a difference-maker. He had a huge game going up against Oklahoma's Loadholt. I'm tired of losing games in the 4th quarter, and guys with Orakpo's conditioning will finally help put an end to that IMO. I think he will be taken top 10, but if concerns about his knee drop him down and he is still there at 13, I say we thank our lucky stars and grab him! |

My point about Orakpo's play vs. Loadholt is that Loadholt was certainly among the top 10% of division 1 OTs, so he was no slouch. Loadholt will definitely be drafted. In fact, he may well get taken in the second round. |

Re: Mock Draft - Skins take Orakpo
Told ya we should take 'Rak.
![]() I have some friends who are Dallas fans (they live in Texas) and they are super-pissed that we drafted Orakpo. I love it.
