Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
In the 90's the was a paper my roommate and would get for laughs - teh Worldwide Weekly. It was your typical grocery store aisle rag but was absolutely out there - "Aliens Ate My Dad's Head and Replaced it With a Watermelon" type stuff. They had photos, and sources, etc. but, essentially, as confirmed by one of their writers, they just sat around making up headlines and then writing stories based on them.
PFT = Football Equivalent of the Worldwide Weekly. (Sorry to hijack, but just couldn't resist this link - PALIN BAGS A BIGFOOT | Weekly World News)

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
25 years ago, you could say the same exact thing about John Riggins. So he should be the last one to make any comments regarding Portis. It's like Danny Ferry, in his role as GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers, raising a stink about a draft pick holding out or a player refusing to honor a contract

Along with one of the best offensive lines in NFL history, a hall of fame WR, a hall of fame CB, one of the best pairs of defensive ends in NFL history, and a Hall of fame coach in his prime and not bound by the current salary cap era player movements...

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Furthermore, when it comes to being juvenile and hurting the team, riggo is no saint. He sat out an entire season b/c the skins didn't renegotiate his contract. After Gibbs went out and convinced him to come back along with the Player's Association rep, he showed no remorse. He simply said "I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back."
If that doesn't scream out selfish and ego-centric, i don't know what does...

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I'm telling it's happening more and more these days. There's more and more hype, buzz and bullsh*t that you have to sift through to get to the truth and what's real. And that's not only in football, but in news and media overall (and even through people spreading rumors in regular conversation). But since football (and sports & entertainment) get a lot of attention, it tends to happen alot in football.
That's my social commentary for today and now I can get off of my soapbox. |

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Couple of points here:
OK, so John Riggins was not the ideal teammate except on Sundays. That makes him a tad hypocritical when he criticizes Clinton Portis. But, does it make him wrong? Even though you are paranoid someone may be out to get you. Even though he is a hypocrite, he may be absolutely correct... PFT signed a deal with NBC recently that carried enough money with it so that Mike Florio can quit his "day job" as a labor lawyer. That's right; he's an attorney and the deal he signed with NBC is big enough that he can "retire" from that job and forego that income. Somebody somewhere must think he knows what he is doing...

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
What did he win when he sat out an entire season? Had he won anything then?

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
The bottom line is Riggo is a super bowl champion, hall of famer and the guy who made maybe the biggest play in Redskin history. CP has played in 4 playoff games with a grand total of 214 yds and 0 TDs. I have no problem with Riggo being critical of CP.

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I agree, CP knows he works for DS (not Zorn as it should be) and DS will back him no matter what.

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I think both Riggins and CP march to the beat of their own drummer and speak their mind, no matter who's listening (or not listening).

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I agree that they both march to the beat of their own drummer however I dont think Riggio cared if anyone was listening. IMO, CP does his silliness because he's so insecure that he craves attention. CP would be very upset if the media ignored his antics.
