You have to consider most of his numbers came in just 9 starts.

I think that Cooley said that he only ran 7 routes last year.

Davis showed a lot of potential once he got the chance to start. You watched the games didn't you?

I'm feeling zorny!!!

The only one that threw them off was the swinging gate it seems. Well, at first anyways.

Fred Davis is about to be the new Laddell Betts. Starter goes down in a lost cause season and the back up plays lights out in a limited number of starts. I wouldn't be surprised if Davis was mediocre for the next few years.

All this based on what? Is it that hard to believe that a guy ranked as one of the best WR prospects out of HS that converts to TE and wins the Mackey Award in an impressive fashion could actually turn out good?

#1- Cooley is a proven still young player.
#2- He's a pro bowler.
#3- Davis did show potential, even though he only had to learn 7 plays.

I'd rather be in the position have having to figure out who should be the starter vs. scratching my head wondering who's good enough to start. All this means is Cooley has some competition and both will be pushing each other to be the best they can. Plus I'm sure both will need breaks at some point in time so the other can relieve each other.

Re: McNabb excited about TE opportunities

Too many people are ready to trade Cooley and go with Davis. I think we need both of them, whether we have one on the bench and the other in the games or both of them in the games.

Alright fine, I'm not saying he's definitely going to be mediocre but you have to admit the circumstances are pretty similar to 2006 when Betts replaced Portis. Superstar goes down with an injury, gets replaced by second round pick that up to that point is a bust, and shines during a lost cause season. Maybe it'll work out, we have a smart Offensive Coordinator but my moneys on Davis being mediocre.

Okay that's all fine but I never said anything to the contrary. I just said that it's not fair to say that he'll fall into mediocrity without any basis to the statement.
