Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
I mean, we could draft a seriously qualified starter for the front 7, or Ijalana/Wisnewski for the line, or maybe Jimmy Smith or Ras-I-Dowling to replace Deangelo Hall (sorry, wrong thread). Someone who could help us out immediately and potentially be an impact player in the league. Or we could take the 4th or 5th best quarterback in a weak qb class and have a 50/50 shot of him busting and like a 15-25% chance of him actually being the answer for us.
I think the only place to get a franchise quarterback these days is in the first round. There's not going to be one for us to take this year, and its not like we just need a qb - we need everything. Take the quarterback in the first 15 picks next year. |

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
Here is Dan Daly's column from the Washington Times about how the Redskins got to the point where they need to reconstruct the QB position:
DALY: Redskins' quarterback shuffle adds up to lots of losses - Washington Times

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
I'm a proponent of getting a QB this year and next year. Whether that's Alex Smith this year and Matt Barkley next year (as an example) or Jake Locker this year and Nick Foles next year, whatever it is I think we need not one but two young (or relatively young) QBs moving forward

I also agree with this as well. Isn't this something Dallas when they were building their championship team of the 90's? They had Akiman and Walsh (if I remember correctly.) Akiman eventually won the job and of course the rest was history. But of course they also had a lot more picks to help build their team (since the draft was more than seven rounds back then.)

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
If Alex Smith and Bruce Gradkowski are good fits then these QBs must also be good fits: Troy Smith, Caleb Hanie, Brady Quinn, Trent Edwards, Matt Lienart, Brodie Croyle, Kellen Clemens,
I would take Tarvaris Jackson over any of them. |

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
Everyone one of these guys are 2nd and 3rd stringers. None of them are starters nor should they be considered as starters. Brady Quinn couldn't even beat out Tebow.

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
Id be up for bringing him in over both of them too. The only reason Id be up for A. Smith over Grossman is like someone said b4, upside. I think we saw what we got with Rexy in this offense at the end of the year. I really couldnt guage Smith in this offense, but jesus christ San Fran has been HORRIBLE for a long time. He's due for a change of scenery, he would be next to nothing to bring in. Little risk.

But, what Grossman showed us is that a younger guy and familiarity with the offense is better than the Brunell's of the football world. Tell me I'm wrong, but I got the feeling McNabb was not being honest with us when given his chances at QB for us. I had this feeling he was holding back (purposely) because I saw him play better while in Philly. I know, he was in the same offense for 11 seasons and should have played better. I wish the Skins can learn a lesson here. That being enough with retread QBs, they usually don't work out. I think Grossman is the best option right now for the Skins. He knows the offense. Bringing in someone else at QB is like starting all over again. Far too many growing pains. Solve the problems at NT, Center and RT with the draft. Get the best LBs available in FA. Stop kidding ourselves, we don't have enough picks for our needs. Picking a first or second round QB is a luxury we cannot afford. |

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
All the QB's mentioned in this thread are stop gap second and third tier QB's. The only guy that I'd think about making a starter is Marc Bulger. He's a accurate pure passer but he needs a line in front of him in the worst way. But with that being said, none of those guys are coming here and even if they did are they really going to play any better than the incumbents? No. We're going to see Beck, Grossman and a rookie. I just hope that rookie isn't taken until the later rounds cause IMO none of these guys are worth taking in the first two.

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
Smith would be a good fit but I doubt it happens.. Shanny seems to want 'his guy' rather than another cast-off. I'm not sold on any of the QB this year, all (other than Gabbert) seem to have a huge question mark and talent but I don't see any of them being on par with any of the young QB in the league now. I'm not sure any of their ceilings are equal to Sanchez's among young QB and he's slightly above average at best.
I'd be fine going into camp with Smith, Grossman, Beck and us using #10 on OLB or WR and #41 on NT or RT.

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
We had our QB of the future but we let Rich Bartel go to Arizona.

Re: Redskins Reconstruction: Quarterbacks
I dunno...part of me says to build the offensive line and find a key RB or WR this year....the other part of me likes what Smootsmack said....draft two QBs and let them compete with each other. Either way, does it really matter who the QB is going to be this year? The Redskins are probably going to have another tough year anyways. Rex does know the system....just sayin'.....I'd probably just keep Rex around for one year at least....
