Here's an interesting link with comments from Kenard Lang on Courtney Brown:

Who said anything about Lavar managing a contract negotiation? I simply said that managment always consults there prime time players before making a move. This is the reality of todays sports stars. I will refrain from insulting you as you constantly feel the need to show that insults are the best way in a disagreement. I just do not understand why you have a thing for a player who is loved by many.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I agree CRT3, that players should be consulted about incoming players if AND ONLY IF they have previously played with that player. LaVar thinks he should have personel decesions which is laughable. Asking him about Brown I'm fine with because he played with him, and they made each other look better, however someone he doesn't know. Stick to that.
GMs stick to scouting. Coaches stick to coaching. Players stick to playing. --That's how it should be! |

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
When did LaVar say he wanted a say in personnel decisions, and what sort of context was it in??
I see people mentioning it from time to time, I've just never seen it or heard it for myself. |

Should he stick to playing or should he be involved with the playcalling? |

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Coaches should listen to players and take their ideas into heart, I don't expect them to make the game plan, but if a player comes up and tells the coach what he thinks will work, why not give it a shot? He sees how a guy is playing him, he knows what moves are getting him open. Why not listen to the players and help exploit another team's weakness? There's a lot more to coaching than playcalling - gameplanning, motivation, techniques, etc.

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
I have a simple question that I bet everyone knows the answer to. What happened on the first play that Clinton Portis touched the ball in a regular season game as a Redskin?
Answer. 56 Yard TD run. Q. Who suggested running that play? A. Clinton Portis. Shut up about Gibb's not taking players ideas into consideration! |

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
Matty:
When Lavar signed his big contract extension with the Skins - the one that is in arbitration and grievance channels at the moment - Lavar said in the Wash Post and on local sports radio that a CRITICAL element of his signing that deal was that he would have input with Danny Boy DIRECTLY about what players on the defense would be retained and what new players might be brought in. Let me repeat, LaVar Arrington said that. Now maybe he was bullsh*itting everyone and pumping sunshine up his ass, but if you think he's a straight shooter and a "true Redskin", then you have to put some credence in his own words, no? Frankly, I'm much more fond of the "players play and coaches coach and FO assembles the team model" than I am about players - no matter how individually talented they may be - being part of a participatory democracy on a football team.

In case this hasn't already been posted, I got this over at Tandler's Redskins Blog: "Coles' main complaint about Gibbs was the coach's inflexible nature. "I didn't feel respected as a player," Coles said. "I know everything changed [when Gibbs succeeded Spurrier] but when you feel like you're one of the best players at your position, you'd think you could talk to a coach about the play-calling. We didn't have that situation. He called the plays. We ran them. That's where things fell off with me. I realize it's a dictatorship but there's only so much you can take." |

Re: Skins expected to sign Brown on Wed.
But the discussion is about signning players onto a team not playcalling. I believe that is what FRPLG is talking about.
