This indicates the deal is $4.25M per season. I'm dying to see the guaranteed portion so we can understand the cap hit.

4 years, $17 million. Reportedly no money is guaranteed beyond 2014.

Good move Skins... Re-sign a solid number one corner for 4-5 million a year that already knows the defense.... Talib and Verner would have commanded a couple million more a year... Granted they have more upside, but other than Sackpo, I don't think we should commit 7 to 9 million a year for one player... We have too many holes to fill...

I like the move. I would rather the team spend the money to keep Rak and/or bringing in a solid Free Safety from free agency instead of getting into a bidding war for Talib or some big time CB FA. I like what I saw in Amerson and I think he has potential to be a #1.

Agree , If we can sign a FS that can , cover , tackle and be the " leader " , our secondary should be fine . Hopefully some of the young guys step up this year .

Yea talib will hit the IR like he does every season. "Ice up son, ice up" - steve smith. We need the Byrdman up top.

I think we're probably looking at starting Hall and Amerson, and picking up someone to compete for the nickel spot. Talib is likely looking for big $$.

Yeah I would def look at bringing in someone to compete for the nickel spot, I personally like Sam Shields. He was rated high as a slot CB 2 years ago and graduated to the outside this past year and played well. Really like the versatility of Sheilds and he should be a "tier" 2 FA at corner. Him and Amerson could compete for both positions, outside and slot.

Seems like they're saving the money to throw at a safety. Not sure there's a ton there after Jairus Byrd.

TJ Ward? Or is he getting tagged?

He's probably second best, but there is a TJ Ward or two that gets to the market every year. Wouldn't go over 5/$20 for Ward.

Chris Clemons from Miami can play a little bit and I'm a big Malcolm Jenkins fan, but this is a weak safety class. Corner is loaded, though.

The safeties in the draft are intriguing, though. Jimmie Ward could be available with the 34th pick.

I don't think we're going to spend big money anywhere except on resigning our own FAs. Bruce Allen said, "We’re going to have to get about 20 new players for this football team.” If we want to do that, players like Byrd and Mack are out of the picture.

20 players, not all are going to be pricey.

you figure 6-8 draft picks. BA seems to be pretty good at moving around in the draft so I figure even without trading KC we probably end up with 8.

3-5 mid level FA's who are competition and priced at about the slots they are filling,

1-3 impact FAs, Byrd or Mack might make a lot of sense, also a solid RT, these are the guys who salary cap room means we have a chance.

and then about 5-8 undrafted rookies or training camp bodies whose salaries will never break the top 51.

He's not talking 20 starting caliber players.

Yeah don't forget, for every player you sign you bump someone else out of the top 51. So sign someone for $750K, you bump out the 51st player whose cap hit is $500K. So the net impact is only $250K.

They'll get a lot of those kind of guys. They can still afford a Byrd if they want.
