You have to give the nod to the coaches using their best judgement, but I don't like the move.
My sentiments exactly. Gibbs is waiting patiently for Jacobs to heal while McCants is cut and possibly could land a third wideout spot after its all over with. What I didn't like about Gibbs's remarks about McCants was first he compared McCants to Art Monk, then all of a sudden McCants is inactive for all but five games and Gibbs says McCants got lost in his lack of special teams play. Well, as far as I can recall Art Monk never played on special teams. Taylor Jacobs to me is like Cliff Russell, who Gibbs cut last year. A lot of potential, but never healthy enough to even get through preseason. Some guys are not built to endure a serious work regiment and it shows. Lastly, Gibbs said he wanted guys who could play through their injuries, but hell McCants was there and looked good in preseason last year catching a TD from Brunell and where was Jacobs. Injured.

Maybe McCants was concentrating too much on his music career.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

The fact that the staff is willing to wait for Jacobs over a healthy McCants says something.

I don't know what's not being understood here. The staff questioned his work ethic and desire. He's not a good special teams player, and frankly he's not an all-pro or someone who is irreplaceable.

We're not going to miss him and I'd bet money that he never develops into anything more than an average WR in this league.

We're always saying how we need core guys to build the team around. Guys that bust their tails and are hard workers. He obviously didn't fit that bill according to our staff.

People keep hanging on to the fact he caught 6 TDs 2 years ago. Big whoop, is that production that can't be replaced or something??

He's slated to be Philly's #4 WR right now. He wasn't going to be even that here, personally I'd take Thrash or Brown over him anyday.

McCants was a fifth round pick in 2001, Jacobs was a 2nd rounder in 2003....more invested and more time for him to reach his potential.
McCants isn't a good practice player or very good on special teams, Jacobs is.

I've always been a big Darnerien fan, but I understand this decision...

If Gibbs didn't want him, that's good enough for me...

Always kinda seemed like DMac had other things on his mind. Too bad. He had the body and hands to be a force. Maybe he'll fit in better on a team where practice and attitude doesn't matter so much. Raiders?

well he was our tallest receiver, i'm sure a big reason he got some of those touchdowns. would be nice to have had another vertical threat in the endzone besides #47

Just goes to show it takes more than height to make a team.

True, but i hear our main man Portis isn't fond of practicing either. a big tall possession type wideout is about the only thing i see missing from our offense.

CP was at all workouts this year. He practices hard, works hard and is one of the most team oriented players we have. He put on 15 lbs this off season to meet Gibbs half way in their running styles

I just want to see The Fun Bunch again. That would be hilarious.

I remember seeing clips of them doing that "high five" in Dallas and the Dallas players tried to get in the middle of it to stop it.

Re: Eagles ink McCants?

i wouldnt dream of taking anything away from CP, i've been one of his hardest core fans since the moment the trade was announced. he's as talented as he is fearless. and yes a very hard worker, he'll do whatever he's asked even if its widely reported he doesn't LIKE practice. guess thats the difference, and true, getting rid of all our bitter legacy WRs was probably a good idea. the fact remains, we could definitely use the type of threat McCants was on the team, if not the player himself.

That just happens to be more TDs than any wide receiver caught for our team last year.

Key here is WR, because Cooley caught 6.

I'll guarantee one of our WR will catch at least 6 this year.

If he wasn't going to fit in, why not cut him and make room for people who will? Sometimes we get too attached to certain players, wanting them to succeed and they just don't have what it takes...
