Cerrato 'Disappointed' by Taylor's Decision

Jason Reid reports:

Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations, was surprised and "disappointed, totally disappointed" that Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Taylor declined to participate in the offseason workout program at Redskins Park, prompting the team to release him yesterday.

The Redskins cut the high-priced Taylor after he balked at owner Daniel Snyder's request to have a workout clause added to his contract that would have resulted in the four-time all-pro performer receiving a $500,000 bonus if he took part in 75 percent of the conditioning program scheduled to begin March 16 at the complex. Taylor, who makes his year-round home in Miami, would have made $8 million during the final year of his contract next season - not including a $500,000 roster bonus he was scheduled to receive this week.

Is just me that thought that when Dockery signed Kendall was not in our plans. He's freakin 36 with bad knees, I thought the whole point of signing Dockery was to get younger and replace Kendall. I guess I was wrong

I would be very happy if they signed Kendall.

Signing Dockery was great but it doesn't guarantee that him and or Randy Thomas won't get nicked or worse during a 16 game season.

I really hope they bring Daniels back. I have a feeling that people are going to be shocked how much Evans signs for (remember who his agent is...) and San Fran is throwing around a lot of money right now.

If Daniels gives us any kind of hometown discount it is a no-brainer.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

I will be very surprised if they don't bring Kendall back. He can start, and is solid. Or if Dock OR Thomas has any let's just say problems....we know Randy is coming off surgery.

Pete will be GREAT depth at OG.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

So whats it gonna be. Last year good on the ends but weak up the middle. This year 100M strong up the middle and weak on the ends. Are they seriously going to let Evans go to SF? We have over 12M in cap room and we are sitting still.

I agree, this seems weird.

The Skins should be bringing Demetric back ASAP before SF can lay their hands on him. He may not be a great long-term solution but help is needed at LDE and he's the best left out there...plus he is familiar with everyone and everything except for the new number he'll need. I've been looking all day for that "Redskins re-sign Evans" story.

Kendall might still come back but for a lower price than he would have gotten if he hadn't been turned loose to begin with. As pointed out above, he would be great for OL depth in the short term.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

First of all Kendall is still a good player and great depth. Secondly, we are not any weaker on the outside. We will sign another DE or perhaps one of our own that just left and we will be fine. Remember that in our defense the LE is primarily a run stopper anyway, a DT would do the same out there at thisn point.

Do not fret I assume that we will sign another DE before long. Maybe a OT too.

I'm hearing that Evans to SF is basically a done deal.

If this is true I think the FO has made a huge blunder. Not that I'm dead set on Evans. I thought it was really dumb to keep Taylor in the first place (said this weeks ago). Then we wait so long to get it right in cutting him that we miss out on Canty (doesn't bother me) and our own guy cuz he gets into serious negotiations w/ another franchise. This is a lousy situation as Evans was probably the best DE talent left in FA.

No doubt Goat. Evans is the best DE in FA. But according to GT we have other plans in the works. He made a good point. We never even offered Evans a contract so we are obviously still not interested in Evans.
