Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion

Cerrato in his presser basically gushed about how the Jets taking Sanchez (an offensive player) opened up the door for a Defensive player to fall to us. I must say those who thought this all was a smokescreen might not have been "off their meds" as was suggested!

The Lions could have had Stafford, Pettigrew, and Maualuga. They didn't need to pick a safety there. I'm surprised Jim Schwartz didn't take either Rey or Laurinitis.

If this is the case, then I'm completely guilty of buying it. At this point I'm just going to be grateful and leave the counter espionage to the pros.

I think it was dumb luck, why alienate your QB in the public for no reason?

Well, what's he supposed to say? "Gosh, we really wanted Sanchez but since we couldn't get him, I guess we'll settle for Orakpo?"

Nice pick for Steve Spagnuolo's new defense in St. Louis with Laurinaitis.

I believe it. I say big kudos to the FO. They had everyone played.

All that matters is what they told him behind closed doors.

Re: 2009 NFL Draft Chat/Discussion

Wow... Rey is going behind Laurinitis. It has to be Rey's lack of discipline- tendency to over-pursue cutback lanes killed him against smaller, fast running backs. NFL defenses cannot risk drafting someone on hitting ability alone- he's got to play within a system with the speed of offensive skill at the next level (he could get away with it in college, especially with Cush and Matthews doing the "boring" work next to him).

As a Trojan, I hope he proves everyone wrong with whatever team takes him... but I'm glad we didn't (Lavar was enough).

Crazy, I know.
It will probably come out that we tried very hard to get Sanchez, but the Jets offer was too much to overcome. After we couldn't have Sanchez, they focused on the task at hand, and that was Orakpo.
Thank you Jets for taking the decision out of our FO hands!

I think if that's true, it should come out in the coming weeks. I'd love to hear JC say that D$ and VC came to him with this plan 3 weeks ago.

I would like to recognize CRedskinsRule, 53Fan, and 724Skinsfan. They saw the smoke screen for what it was. Good job guys!

After intensively studying the Jason Candle Geico ads I really don't think Campbell could pull off that kind of acting.

Obviously it wasn't anything special considering Campbell came out publicly to tell everyone he wanted a trade if a QB was taken.
