Re: Redskins Lions postgame
If you want to wait for Griffin to be truly, 100% back to the level of athlete he was last season, that means sitting him out for the entire season. A full Derrick Rose.
But for practical purposes in terms of functioning as an athlete at a high level, the guy is fine. No issues throwing the football or gaining velocity in open space. There's a limited amount of explosion in the knee. But: he's a quarterback. There's more explosion in that rehabbing knee than Peyton Manning has, and Manning's making out okay.

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
I don't, but it's a hard thing to measure. If you think 90% and I think 100%, we're both probably seeing what we want to. 90% and 100% both qualify as "just fine"

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
Playing in the pocket more will make him better in the long run, he needs this.

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
If you meant read option you are correct. Trading away 3 first rounders to make RG3 a 100 % drop back passer is absurd. The read option was made for RG3 and they better get back to it or watch this thing get real ugly.

Look how awful Michael Vick has been trying to be a passing QB to extend his career. He has some highlights because Reid and Kelly go for big plays boom or bust, but he's been an inaccurate turnover machine when you look at the big picture. Robert will be miles ahead of him when that point comes in his career and this team will be better off because of it. So now, we just have to watch and wait. If Griffin was not injured, there's no way he'd be attempting 50 passes in a game, EVER. But, we're in a unique spot where we have a running QB that we want to protect while he re-acquaints himself with the game. He's been effective as a pocket passer and he's improving every week and more importantly, with every week, his knee is getting stronger and stronger without injuring it again. He showed he can still take off and run. We'll see more and more of that as the season progresses. We may not call as many designed QB runs and it would probably be smart not to, but he'll still find his running lanes and turn losses into big gains out of no where. Just practice sliding, Robert!

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
My final note before moving on to the Oakland game.. I hope we never play Detroit again when they are on an 0-?? streak. We embarassingly lost to break their winless streak over 2+ seasons and then their 21 game streak in Washington. Ugh.

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
I have to agree with you on that. No reason why Griffin couldn't have just slid feet first. Even if he lost the football, he would have been ruled down.

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
He was sliding forward trying to make a play. Not gonna kill him for that. The ground caused the fumble. It should be our ball. That's just a terrible rule. Now the INT? That was a stupid play and all on RG3.

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
I agree it's a dumb rule. He clearly gave himself up. There shouldn't be a difference between going head first or feet first.

For example, if the first down was a yard a way and the QB was trying to dive for the first down and a defender was standing right there how would the defender know if the QB is giving himself up or not. |

Re: Redskins Lions postgame
I knew the minute the ball came out it was a fumble. Its all on him to know the rules and not blame it on being a stupid rule for not knowing. With us wanting to portect him more and him knowing he needs to slide more he should have known the rule. Maybe take the time to read sliding rules while your between interviews.
