Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
The HC 's job is to run the team, set the culture of the team, lead the team, make sure he has good assistants, not develop the QB. Having a bad staff can break the HC.
There are plenty of examples of great QB's being on teams w/ defensive coaches. I want the best guy for the job, regardless of what side of the ball he works on. Haskins can still develop with a defensive coach. |

Contrary to the current opinion in our front office, our culture is not "damn good" - its been the complete opposite. The Prince of Darkness has ruined the culture of this team. Jay was a little too easy-going. Whoever we bring in needs to really change that culture and create a professional environment here - from the front office down to the locker room. To the other point, hiring great assistants really is key. Now, Gruden had some great offensive assistants here - the fact that 2 of them are successful head coaches now is a testament to that. But he could never bring in a good DC. And aside from Tomsula, I don't think any of our other defensive coaches would be ranked in the top half of the league. Gruden had a chance to get Wade Phillips and turned it down. He stubbornly stuck with Manusky last offseason... why? In both instances, there were rumblings that Jay was insecure and afraid to bring in someone who could be viewed as a potential replacement for him should he be fired. His insecurity lead to him NOT making the best hire. The new head coach cannot be that kind of guy. He's got to be someone who not only has the desire, but also the ability, to convince the best assistant coaches available to come here. Given our reputation in the league, finding the head coach who can do both things is going to be very, very difficult. I sincerely hope Snyder has already started the process of searching for a new GM and/or head coach. I say both because, while traditionally, you'd hire a GM and let him pick the coach, sometimes, if the coach is elite enough, you can do the reverse - you hire the coach and let him select the GM. I don't think there are any coaching candidates out there that have that cache, but its always possible someone unexpected could become available. There were rumors last offseason that part of the reason Jay

1. Jay was the head coach and didn't want to start Haskins and was 0-5 before being fired. Basically blaming 5 losses on a coach that they fired. 2. We had an interim head coach with a rookie QB that went 5-6, just under .500. 3. The best LT in football held out, OL cohesion, etc. 4. [insert other excuses here] With the news a while back regarding Bezo potentially helping Dan get a new stadium, one would hope that is true and that he doesn't need Bruce around to get that done any longer. Either way, until Dan gets out of the way himself, is it really going to matter who he replaces Bruce with? And I'm not saying not to fire him, he should have already been fired a while ago. |

Dan has become Al Davis.
This will be the offseason of Jim Zorn V2.0. Greg Manusky will be the 2020 HC of the Redskins. Last edited by jamf; 12-04-2019 at 06:37 PM. Reason: Im drunk |

If Bruce is canned and suddenly TW is cool with playing here I’d take him back, but I’d also consider trade offers for him

I cant imagine a new coach/GM would want to give significant money to an older player with injury concerns, risk of suspension, who held out a year over greed and threw the organization under the bus. But who knows, maybe they would decide he was enough of a talent upgrade over Penn or a similar veteran to be worth it.

I would too but if it takes a lane Johnson type of extension, pass

Tear up the last year of this contract and offer him a 3 year deal that is for good guaranteed money but not a super high overall amount per year. But yeah, if he wants the moon, no thanks.

I would 100% bring him back. He could still be a dominant LT for another 3ish seasons. One less hole to fill and 1 more pick to fill another hole. I don't see it happening under any circumstance so it's probably moot.

I love Trent but Id trade him ... even for a 2nd at this point. Create some cap space, get some resources back .... but hes never suiting up for us again.

Re: Who will be the next coach of the Redskins and does it even freakin matter?
The news about Snyder’s HC’s search is that NONE of the competent HC want to come here with Bruce Allen as GM. That perhaps is the REAL final nail in the coffin for BA. Snyder has seen the “FireBruceAllen” movement grow and grow and seen the fan base shrink and shrink. Ten years ago Snyder fired his last lackey, Vinny Cerrato when the media and fan pressure rose to current unfavorable levels. It’s an easy move and may give Snyder the ability to actually hire a highly talented HC. The new HC may also want assurances that Snyder will stay out of football decisions. Snyder has almost always gone with offensive-oriented HC so I don’t see him changing this time, especially with Haskins needing good coaching.
I agree with prior comments that it doesn’t matter whether we have a Offensive or Defensive-minded HC. But Snyder is simple in his thinking and will go for a offensive-leaning coach to bring up Haskins. Only by firing Bruce Allen can we get the coaching talent this team has lacked. I especially think a very good DC will instantly improve the Defense into the top half of the NFL. The defense is young and has some core talent IF JUST COACHED BETTER. Again, only by firing BA, can Snyder hire the HC and DC the team needs to really change. Finally, I wonder if Snyder is worried about the NFL itself. Snyder is considered a loser and incompetent by most, if not all, the other owners. But Snyder’s continued mistakes is hurting the NFL image. The NFL is doing everything it can to ignore the rapidly eroding Redskin home stadium fan base. There are no tv shots of the whole sections of empty seats or the vast number of opposing team jerseys - nor any discussion by the tv commentators on this subject. Will the NFL allow Snyder to further destroy what’s left of the fan base with another 10 years of management buffoonery and poor football? That may be the biggest reason why Bruce is dumped after the SB this year! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the reason Dan is befriending Alex Smith is he's going to need a new BFF after he finally fires Bruce. If Snyder wasn't rich would anyone hang around the guy?
