I refuse to believe that his "style of play" is what's going to suddenly have him crumbling into a puddle of injury-prone mediocrity. This is also assuming the other guys in the league AREN'T running QBs. If you look at those stats, Luck is going to be out of the league in a year! TOO MANY HITS!!!!!!!! OMGZZ!1!11!
That's the thing, I don't really see RG3's style as the problem i.e. most of the big hits are coming when he drops back into the pocket. Like Matty and others have said he can help himself by getting rid of the ball quicker, but then I think we probably see fewer completions and more turnovers. I think it really comes down to protection, that's what I'm saying.

Take Big Ben for example. He's had lousy protection through most of his career and everyone pointed to his toughness (and it doesn't hurt that he's a huge dude), but now the injuries are lasting longer and he's not playing at the same level. Does this make sense?

The think the concern for RG3, which is pretty much unanimous outside this board btw, is legit.

Every QB gets hit.. RG3 holds the ball and looks to run when the play breaks down or doesn't go his way. It's been going on all year. It's going to happen next year, and many more after that..

Talking about what "might happen" is like talking about the end of the world on Jan. 1st.

With all the hype that RG3 is getting, and it's well deserved, I'm wondering if this type of offense we're running can work long term. Steve Young asked him that after the game and RG3 thought so. I'm not sure it is, and as time goes on I hope he can develop into the passer that Young became. I just don't think he can last with the pounding he takes. I will say this, he's a lot tougher than I ever thought he was.

I mean why not? EVERY TEAM has seen it this year and if you can't figure it out by now, it's going to take a while.

Over time I think he can develop into a more pure pocket passer just fine. He's just too talented and works too damn hard not to. But while he's young and is such a big time threat with his legs a coach would be a real idiot to not take advantage of his skills.

Agreed. I would add that he seems to grow into the pocket passer role a bit more with each passing week.

Not only that, if you look where his accuracy is compared to his peers, it's off the charts. I know people say he throws short passes, but his accuracy on intermediate and long is WAY up there too.

I agree. I also think our O-line has a lot to do with it. We're quick and light and built to move off the line quickly, but we're not built to sit back and protect a pocket passer. I think sitting in the pocket all day would be much more dangerous for RG given our current setup.

That being said, I would like to see us keep adding o-linemen. IMO we can never have enough. I even think we should add to the o-line before the defense. We might have to keep winning games 41-34, but at least we'll be protecting our most valuable asset.

Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread

i think RT is really all we need. i say invest in that and when (BIG IF) the time comes that RG3 starts becoming a pure pocket guy, at least that RT is there.

i think what some people are overlooking with the read/option is how 1) AMAZINg rg3 is with his ball fakes and 2) just how damn accurate he is. we havent seen a QB with his accuracy/speed running this yet. might just be a new era in the nfl.

Re: Giants at Redskins Post Game Thread

I hear this "new era" or "changing the game" stuff and I don't know. I tend to think that we're making an offense that really shouldn't work actually work only because of the singular talents that RGIII has. There are about 5 plays a game that are the plays that keep this offense moving...most of them involve him doing something only he can do. The league has never seen speed at the position like him, even Vick wasn't Olympic hurdler speed.

It is as long as he is a threat to run the ball. If we're going to stick with this offense I think we need to go out and get a back up that can run it. Possibly Mike Vick.
