Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread

Seriously though..... if you look at the "well run" teams, recently the MO is to get them signed or to tag and trade them, if they don't like him well enough by now to sign him to the deal he wants it is unlikely that they will meet his demands...... depends on how much they like Wes Martin I would suppose, with Trent looking doubtful to return maybe they go into a genuine rebuild mode, hence the desire to trade down with Miami in the draft. Smithers would have tagged him and then sat on his rights in the confidence that he will cave eventually, look how that worked out with Trent.

That's not what they did with Trent. They signed him to a front-loaded deal and he reneged when he got to the 2 back-end years. Completely different situation.

You are of course right but my point was that we all realise it was always about money with Trent, Bruce knew that but didn't want to pay him a top of the market deal (and for the record I don't think he is worth $20m aav) and rather than trade him while he had value he chose to make it a personal battle of wills.... whether a player overates his value or not, front offices have a pretty good idea where the market will be set a couple of years ahead of time, and they should already have a pretty good idea whether they think the guy is worth it, if not they should trade the player like Seattle and Kansas City have done recently when tagging players

The intent is to get him re-signed.

Tag sounds good to me. 2019 tag for O Lineman (there is no distinction for G v LT) was 14M last year so Im guessing 15M this year.

Have until July 15 to agree to a LTD.

let him play at 15M, see if he can stay healthy and have a bounce back year.

---------------------

Cheap semi young possibility as a TE2 or TE3. More blocking TE than catching but he had promise at one time.

Nick OLeary, 28 yrs old, played for Jags last year.

JP Holtz will be an ERFA

I either read or heard somewhere in the last few days that if they tag Scherff it would be just over $16 million.

I just read that as well .... and that officially the tag amounts wont be known until the CBA is done?

Seems like he wants 14-17M a year AAV anyway ... Id say tag him, if you cant get a reasonable LTD done, let him play this year and prove that he can stay healthy and bonce back.

I love Scherff and want us to keep our young, good, high draft pick players .... but paying Gs over 12M kinda goes against my own personal philosophy. Certain positions I think you dont need elite talent at elite contracts to do well. RB, G, SS are the 3 at the top of my list. TE used to be in that list but nowadays it seems you need a dual 3 down TE.

Re: Offseason Roster Moves Thread

I think they are going to franchise Scherff to see if he can stay healthy for a season before they give him a longer contract. I also read something like $16 mill.

Trent may want to be the highest paid OT but he’s dreaming. We’re not going to pay him that much and neither is anyone else either. No one has called for a trade, yet. Kyle Smith said Trent would have to play his contract, just to let Trent and his agent know Rivera can play hardball if it comes to that. I’m thinking now the Redskins will take a second rounder for Trent (they want a first rounder). They can use the second rounder for TE, then the third rounder for OT. I think the Trent situation I going to be a win-win. Trent comes back for a reasonable contract for a couple years of very good play or we get a decent draft pick to pick a replacement. I think the Redskins will draft 2-3 OT in the draft and UDFA and hope one picks takes as a starter and another as a project.

Im all for it. Bring in as many guys as you can at TE and see what happens. Zero down side except Snyder has pay the guys marginal miniscul salary for a few months until hes cut in August .. or stays on.

Your link sent me to NFL GamePass, that was weird. That said, the guy -Marcus Baugh - is an Ohio State guy too, hence Haskins' tweet. Seems like that either is a backhanded way of giving Haskins comfort he is going to be here, or maybe Rivera wants Haskins to hear from Dwayne's "guy" what Rivera expects from a QB. Whatever the case, a TE that Haskins and Rivera know and trust(?) can't be a bad thing to bring in at this point of the off-season

Thats weird, I clicked it again and it took me to his NFL player page.

Panthers player.

Write ups arent good. NFL draft write up on him in 2018 has lots of drops and double catches and is not a good blocker. Anyway. Hes a body.

Yeah, he went undrafted, picked up by the Raiders. Here is Rotoworld:
Quote:
Raiders signed Ohio State TE Marcus Baugh.
Baugh (6’4/247) made 29 starts for the Buckeyes, logging a career 55/607/11.0/8 receiving line with five TDs on 28 receptions as a senior. Baugh’s forty time disappointed (4.83) at the Combine, however, and he tested out as a sluggish 20th-percentile athlete. On tape, Baugh failed to run fluid routes, showed below-average hands, and wasn’t a standout blocker. Baugh would do well to carve out a C.J. Uzomah-like career as a No. 2/3 tight end.
So he didn't play on the field with Haskins. Oh and he was waived/injured at the end of the preseason last year...

No good write ups on him. The article I read said he is poor physically. If the team wasn’t so desperate for TE’s he wouldn’t have been signed.
