I agree.

I was asking if anyone had any inside information on if this was/is part of this whole plan... use Rak to gain back one (or 2) of the picks.

I'm not for it... I'm just seeing if there is the chance of it happening.

First: So all the picks they gave away are technically all under the Shanahan regime. They go right up to the end of his 5 year contract, which I think is a bit of coincidence and necessity. I really think Snyder is committed with sticking to just one guy for a while and that he's not on the hot seat this year, even with one more mediocre year (unless it's a bomb like 2-14 or something). So theoretically, it's not in the past where coaches are mortgaging the future for other coaches.

Second: I had some sticker shock when I learned of what they gave up, but then I realized there must of been very high interest from other teams that made them to do this. Hell, latest reports were CLE would match the deal, so I'm sure they were strong in the running along with other teams which we don't know about that drove the price up.

Third: They are very high on Griffen (along with a lot of other people) and they knew their QB situation was bad. The "safe" move I suppose would be to have drafted maybe Tannenhill or sign Orton, spent the other picks continuing to build the "base", and then in the next year draft their highly touted QB. But, they got their guy who is a very good fit for the system of bootlegs and moving around and can finally say they have drafted their franchise QB.

And Most Important:

Fourth: I am really interested to see how they approach Free Agency. This entire emotion behind this move feels like the Redskins of Old . We are posting pictures of RG3 in redskins gear hosting trophies and most of us have already though of that first bootleg roll out when RG3 has plenty of space in front of him. It's another big splash, big move, lots of hype, but who knows what will show up on the field.

I hope they approach FA like they did last year: making solid above average signings for reasonable cash. The only place I see them going overboard is WR. If they go out and get all the big names and bring in a ton of people, I'm not sure if this is really a new way of running the redskins.
Very well said. It took me a night to sleep on it too. I was a pretty pissed we gave up so much but at the end of the day im very excited at the prospect of stability at the qb position for years to come.

I hope we do a complete repeat of fa like last year too. Should be interesting w wr though, i wonder if the elite want to work w a rookie qb?

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

Speaking of WRs... adding:

Free Agents:
M. Colston (V.Jax worries me for the ton of $ he will command) &
E. Royal (some untapped potential I believe & has done well under Shanny before)

And in the draft:
Joe Adams in the 3rd Round

Gives RGIII THIS to throw to:
M. Colston
L. Hankerson
J. Gaffney
E. Royal
J. Adams
S. Moss
F. Davis
C. Cooley
R. Helu - out of the backfield

Come on .... All 3 I'm talking about adding are very feasible... and I believe any QB would be satisfied with that stable of receivers.

Redskins pay high price to get their QB - NFC East Blog - ESPN

Quote:
The price is toe-curlingly high, and a month or so ago I thought three first-rounders would have been too much. But I think the Redskins had to do it. Look around the league. Teams that get quarterback right are set for a decade. They are playoff teams, almost guaranteed, every single year. They have far fewer worries at draft time, and their offseasons are far less stressful and scrutinized. Teams that miss on quarterback are miserable, lost and confused, perpetually reaching for ill-fitting solutions and facing the same insurmountable problems year in and year out.

What's the price of a championship? Whatever it takes. Hindsight may prove this to be a terrible trade, but at least this shows that we're all in. Now off to watch some of last year's Baylor games...

Love how you summed this up. Very true. Glad to see us getting a qb but not happy about giving up the 2nd round pick.

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

This is a bit of a double edged sword for me. I love that we are going to get a quality player and individual like RG3. I do hope he can deliver for us. We have gone waaaaay too damn long without a true starting qb. As we know though things happen and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. I sure hope for RG3 and our sake it does. Now we need to give him some more pieces to let him be successful.
Still not crazy that we gave up as much as we did, but it is what it is. Teams who are in dire need will do what it takes.

If I were Luck or Griffin I would forego my pro days and just take my #1 or #2 slot.

colston won't be cheap, won't have brees throwing to him, and still has injury issues. not that VJ is without his own problems, but the best WRs got tagged, and I think VJ is better than colston if the money's equal.

i'd look at meachem for cost effectiveness. that's the quality guy that won't break the bank. royal's been linked already and he's not going to get any kind of money, so of course that'd make sense... I mean, why not?

did you read my post or just see the giants logo in the avatar and comment? As far as torching the Giants, we shall see about that, but you should at least give the kid a few practices before you start with that.
