If he last until the 6th or 7th round I think that Terrance Gannaway would be a nice late round pickup.

It had to be done. In today's NFL, a team must have a Franchise QB to go to the playoffs. The price was very high but I still can't criticize the Skins management for doing what had to be done.

The good news is that the Skins are in very good shape with the salary cap which means that they can be very active in Free Agency. They just need to make sure that they sign young FA's. Now, with RGIII, the Skins have a draw to attract FA's.

The Skins still have six draft picks and I feel confident that they will do a good job of drafting players who can help. They may also make some trades of players for other players or for draft picks.

I think the Skins will now be on a winning track sooner than before the trade. If RGIII becomes the star most of us think he will be and we're winning, no Redskins fan will give a hoot what he cost.

I really think Snyder is committed with sticking to just one guy for a while and that he's not on the hot seat this year, even with one more mediocre year (unless it's a bomb like 2-14 or something). So theoretically, it's not in the past where coaches are mortgaging the future for other coaches.

Second: I had some sticker shock when I learned of what they gave up, but then I realized there must of been very high interest from other teams that made them to do this. Hell, latest reports were CLE would match the deal, so I'm sure they were strong in the running along with other teams which we don't know about that drove the price up.
Even if they do go 2-14, 3-13 (don't think they will), they can't can Shanahan. Have to give him a year to break the kid in, even if it means taking a beating. Peyton went 3-13 his first year, the Colts didnt can Mora, they were 13-3 in his second.

As for what other teams had offered. Cleveland from what I have read was offering the two 1's this year plus some combo of 2's and 3's. Skins had to give the extra 1 to beat it and because of the uncertainty. No guarantee the Skins pick next year will be earlier than the Browns 22nd overall.

Compensation is three first round picks, including the no. 6.

At least three first rounders. Still trying to track what else the Redskins gave up here.

Welcome RGIII. Hello playoffs. A lot to trade but it is worth it. It has been too long without a scoring threat of this magnitude. It will work out.

39th pick (2012) and say the 16th(2013) pick and the 20th pick (2014).

Every hour that goes by I feel more and more confident with this trade. The upside is so high and worst case scenario we have a competent quarterback for several years.

We've hit on Orakpo, Trent and Kerrigan. We have a good foundation of youth, it's time to get some free agents/build from within/and watch the most exciting quarterback in the league.

We are once again a legitimate franchise.

Rams have some interesting choices at 6. They can possibly trade up to Minnesota with their 6th and 2nd round pick to assure they get Blackmon. Or if a team wants to jump Miami to get Tannehill they can trade back and pick up a third 2nd round pick.

Don't think the colts will pass on luck, but if they do good for us.

Yes I would much rather have pics of him in a hot tub with three gorgeous women. That would be MUCH better.

As to the trade, love RGIII, and drinking the kool-aid I will say it is better to give up one pick a year rather than giving a ton of picks in any one draft.

That's essentially the Shanaplan in a nutshell.
Then you haven't been paying attention. I've quoted ES insiders several times over the course of this past year that RGIII was very high on the Skins list. This isn't something new that just came up.

What Shanny says, and what he does doesn't always equal. Two things we can deduce from this trade:

1) Shanahan believes this kid is the real deal.

2) They are desperate as hell.

Re: Redskins agree to trade for No.2 overall pick in 2012 Draft

MY personal thoughts on this trade. First off, I want to state that I love RGIII as a prospect and wanted him here as our QB.

That said, I think they gave up entirely too much to get him and no doubt Shanahan has put his career at stake with this move. I personally think we weren't at the stage in our rebuild to make a move like this, but we'll see how this plays out over the course of the next 3 years.

My other concern with this move is the expectations and pressure that is going to be heaved on RGIII. Fans are celebrating this as if we've landed a franchise QB, but the reality of it is we haven't. We've landed a very good prospect who hasn't played a single snap of NFL football yet. We can hardly call any rookie a franchise QB until this all plays out.
