I would like to know how he did.
It was great and he did not need a light show and 78,000 paid people cheering him on.

You would be the biggest Obama supporter if he had three little letters in front of his name ... Rep.

come on. McCain himself will tell you this kind of forum isn't his forte. but, as schneed said, he kept it about him, and his accomplishments. i really commend him for that. and Palin did a good job the night before, it was going to be hard to better that. what made me laugh, is that all of a sudden McCain wants change in Washington. i think the old man knows he is done

He's not done according to polls, on a national scale Obama's lead is within the margin of error in most polls, which is statistic-speak for "it can go either way". Before his convention and the introduction of Palin, Obama had taken a significant lead in two battleground states: Minnesota and Iowa. But they were in a dead heat in Ohio, which has a bunch of electoral votes and figures to be a major factor in the upcoming election. It will be interesting to see if the GOP convention gives McCain a bump in Ohio.

Others to watch are Florida, which is also neck and neck, and Pennsylvania. PA is leaning more towards Obama, but the folks out in your neck of the woods, dmek, have a way of mobilizing on election day like no other.

or giant stryofoam columns. It comes down to style vs. substance. Hopefully substance wins out.

I tell you what, I hope they continue with styrofoam columns jab, because the Obama campaign raised $11 million yesterday.

As long as Palin's taking the jabs I think the GOP will be fine with fundraising, from the blurbs I've seen so far she's doubled the rate of McCain fundraising.

Obama's campaign is a fundraising juggernaut without a doubt. The Hollywood crowd is definitely stepping up as usual:

FOXNews.com - Pop Tarts: Hollywood Stars React to Sarah Palin, Daughter’s Pregnancy - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment
About halfway down.

On a separate note, curious why Oprah is allegedly balking at having Palin on, pretty big risk to her ratings IMO (not that she really cares at $ 100M+/yr.). I would think she would at least put up the appearance of being impartial & fair and let all voices be heard.

It was mediocre, he's not a great speaker.

But he did show a lot of respect to Obama in an attempt to unify the country a little bit. I think it will probably fall on deaf ears for a lot of dems though, considering that comes the very day after his running mate took some nasty swipes at Obama.

Whatever, it's all part of the game. I still say focus on their records instead of any of the crap they say.

Yeah, plus Palin's speech last night would have been a bitch to top. Also thanks for answering my question on national health care from before.

Either way I'm tired about all the experience talk, going both ways. Lets get the bastards in a debate and then we'll talk about who's ready to run this country.

Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate

I think any Democrat who thinks this gonna be a cakewalk is deluding themselves. Regardless of Saden, Dmek and others who believe the Reps are out of touch, the underlying philosophy of the Republican party (smaller govt., personal responsibility) speaks to a significant number of reasonable and intelligent people (and please please PLEASE don't tell me how the Reps in power have not shown that - I AGREE).

As for the social issues, the far right of the Rep party is clearly at odds with a significant portion of the American center. The same could be said, however, about the far left of the Dem party.

This is going to be a close one. Maybe even "hanging chad" close.

the area i live in always votes republican. but i disagree about one poll. the Gallup poll has obama up 49%- 42%. probably the only poll i pay attention to( to me, it seems the most unbiased) and Minnesota? they haven't voted for a republican since 1972? i think the same thing that basically got old W. into the white house, will get Obama in. 8 years of one party is enough

Joe, i agree about the republicans philosophy. but i also think that John McCain has had more then his fair chance to stand up to the president, and the 90% voting record shows he didnt. i just think Americans, as a whole, are ready to try something, anything, that will be different. but we all know how people are with change. some do well with it. others shun it like the plague. and that itself will keep it close

Re: Update: McCain Selects Gov. Sarah Palin as Running Mate

I thought this was too funny not to post. What is talking about??? Isnt he the leader of Vote or Die???

Says Diddy: "Attention John McCain, attention John McCain, my name is Diddy…I had to check in with you to tell you that you are bugging the f--- out. I don't even understand what planet you're on right now.! This is the job to be the leader of the free world.
"Ok," Diddy continues, "No disrespect. I love you. I want you to live to be 110, but things happen. What if, God forbid, you got a running mate, you become president -- Alaska? Alaska? Alaska? Alaska? Come on, man. I don’t know if there's any black people in Alaska.
"John, like, come on!" Diddy entreaties. "Sarah Palin? Yo, if you really think that we're gonna let you win this election with these, like, crazy, these crazy decisions that you're making, you're buggin'. "
