I would definitely save it. Chico’s right, there would be serious diminishing returns by giving it to everyone. It should go to the unemployed.

Re: Coronavirus (political)

I find it odd people have a problem with individuals getting stimulus checks to "stimulate the economy" but there wasn't a big out cry when Boeing got 50 billion or the Kennedy Center got 30 million from the last stimulus bill . Like others have said if it is to the "people" fine . I'm retired and have a small pt job but this will cause my heath Insurance to go up(I'll spend it on that) ...I should be able to use this money as I see fit ,save it spend it , what ever.

Re: Coronavirus (political)

I still haven’t got my first check. Went with a new accountant this year and he paper filed vs e filed and put my address as 6710 instead of 6701. I got my fed and state refund as the mail person put it in my mailbox and not 6710 ... but now I’m not sure the mail person caught the mistake this time around.

What sucks is if that check never appears I highly doubt there’s a place to request a replacement check.

Fuck this new accountant. Sorry for the language.

Be polite to him until there's no need to be. Put it on him, and if he can't do anything go to the IRS. There has to be a hotline or something you can call, it's not like you're the only one missing a check.

I’m going to give the irs website my direct deposit information ... which seems a bit shady tbh. I’m sure the Chinese govt has that hacked.

You're not wrong lol. Gov't IT security infrastructure always seems to be a step or two behind the hackers.

If they're handing out 2K a month I'm not getting punished for working. Give me my 2K. I'm middle class. Make just enough to get by and put a bit into my 401K and HSA. And that's cause I live with roommates. If I rented a place by myself my housing costs would at least double and I'd be struggling. Could definitely use some extra money to put away. I'd spend good chunk of it too. Have already been ordering food delivery 3 or 4 times a week.

Re: Coronavirus (political)

The more people who decide to save it, the lesser the intended impact on the economy. The point of a stimulus is to get money flowing around the economy quickly, or grease the gears of a particular industry so that it doesn’t grind to a complete halt thereby killing a vital service.

Give the money to individuals who really need it. They’ll spend it immediately. The businesses receiving it will then spend it immediately as they continue to try to stay afloat. That money does a lot more good flowing around the economy than mine or yours would if we saved it. Saved money only helps the banks have more cash available for lending, which has value, but we are not on the precipice of a financial collapse like we were in 2008. Saved money would do little right now for the greater good.

I agree with this, but like Matty said he doesn’t need it but would spend it. I am getting paid more for work right now, and my wife is a teacher and still getting paid. I didn’t need it. I spent it. Put it back into flow by getting dinners from local restaurants, etc. You told Matty to save it, but than here said saving money right now is not contributing to the greater good. If people who dont need it - get it and spend it on the people who do isn’t that just as productive as those people getting it directly??

Re: Coronavirus (political)

Not to mention, it just makes no sense. I was doing fine before COVID and I’m still doing fine now. People like me should not get help. We don’t need it. Let it go to the people who do. Waiters, hairdressers, retail business owners, they’re the ones that need it.

Re: Coronavirus (political)

Nobody is getting rich on unemployment. I say if someone is living a little more comfortably right now during a stressful time that’s a good thing.

The issue is if someone makes more money by not working, when called back to work many come back with an attitude. That becomes a negative for both the employee and the employer. I belong to a forum where a lot of people including myself own manufacturing businesses. It doesn't apply to me as I no longer have employees, but quite a few guys on there had to lay people off. They took Cares Act loans and went back to running full capacity, quite a few of the employees did not want to come back to work till the $600 federal bonus money ran out. Some refused to return to work and ended up getting fired. When that extra $600 ends they end up with just state unemployment which will be way less than what they were making while working. Also they now are unemployed in a time where we have a 15% unemployment rate and growing.

Things are going to get a lot worse for a long time before things turn around. you are going to have high unemployment and under employment. You are going to have a lot of people taking jobs they are over qualified for and there will be plenty of people happy to hire them. Unemployed people without much in the way of skills and education are going to have a tough time finding work. With high unemployment employers will start increasing job requirements.

Hopefully this will help Unions find there way back into the American society.

Not going to happen any time soon. With so many sectors that will be hurting for so long to come and with high unemployment nobody with a job they want to keep will risk going into management's dog house for trying to unionize.

I worked a large global aerospace connector manufacturing company decades ago. At the place and time for a non union shop wages and benefits were excellent. A group of workers tried to get the union in there and the company was cool about it as they felt they could easily defeat the union push. They actually allowed the union reps on the property and let them use the auditorium to hold meetings. The union was voted down about 80-20. The people that vocally supported the union became targets and ended up forced to quit. Even though I was close to leaving for the land of self employment I was vocally against the union and found most of the pro union people as poor workers who wanted more pay and benefits that they did not deserve.

I believe in most cases unions do more harm than good these days. They have bleed a lot of companies dry. If you are well educated or skilled, or even someone who is not, but at least has a strong work ethic and is a loyal employee, you will find a decent job where you are appreciated and paid well and treated well for what you do.

Re: Coronavirus (political)

I'm doing ok now but I could be doing much better with an additional 2k a month (which is almost doubling what I get now). First thing I would do? Move out and get my own place since I could afford it. Pump that money right back into the economy.
