This is a nightmare but the correct approach.

If Bruce wants to hold Trent hostage with this medical staff, Trent will get a second and third opinion on every injury and miss significant game time trying to keep himself healthy for when he is a free agent. If Trent is traded, we free up $23m over the next 2 years that we can use to resign Scherff(If he wants to stay).

Trent at 33 will still be a top 5 LT in the league and probably play for 4-5 additional years. TW is a freak athlete and in great shape for his size. He will be able to play a long time like Jackie Slater and Bruce Mathews.

It's a god damn shame it's come to this.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

Well said jamf. At some point Dan Snyder needs to make Bruce Allen wear the hat for this. Allen has been shrewd at making sure we don't get into cap trouble but he's responsible for alienating Cousins and and he's responsible for this bullshit with Trent.

On one hand I cringe at bringing up Cousins because I prefer to move on, but if you're evaluating the performance of the team president you have to look back at what happened and what could have been, if handled differently.

Allen fails through that lens in so many ways.

Let's see what happens with Trent. Right now I'm so fixated on what the offense will look like in week 1 I can barely think about anything else. At the end of the season when we're 7-9 again I'll break out the torches and pitchforks for Allen.

This is the most detailed article I've seen written by an actual journalist on the matter.

The article suggests that waiting him out might not be fruitful.

Outstanding piece of writing and this now seems like more than just JLC's typical bullshit reporting. Brewer has independently confirmed his own sources.

Fire Bruce today and trade Trent. Fuck our collective lives.

Are you using ad blocker extension? If so, you should switch to Brave browser - I'm able to get on washington post website fine on Brave browser although I get same limited number of articles warning.

Thanks I will try that. I do not mind a reasonable amount of ads, but I detest them coming from the Washington Post and the like that pollute the sports page with their politics.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

The Redskins should fire Allen, and then go to Trent and say, "Hey man, we're sorry. But we're taking important steps in the right direction. This is the second cancer in your life that has been expunged."

I really hope they can repair things. I think he really is the cornerstone of this team. And he's been a warrior for us for so long. I'd hate to see him leave. Hate it.

Ya know, after reading that article it makes you realize just how loyal he’s been to the organization, and the type of leader he’s been. If we lose our cornerstone player, the silver lining is this MIGHT be the thing that finally get Bruce Allen fired. That piece of shit needs to go ASAP.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

Firing Allen will only do so much.

Check out this comment from Warren Sapp.
Quote:
"You know, Bruce Allen is not a mover and shaker," Sapp said. "Bruce Allen is [there to] play golf, go to the corporate meetings, talk about the old times with his father, rally up the suite holders. Somebody else is actually making the personnel decisions....That's my take on it. That's the Bruce Allen I know."
I suspect Dan is playing fantasy football with the roster.
Bruce is there to run interference for Dan and to get the land for the stadium inside the beltway.

Dan is having too much fun going 7-9 to change his ways.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

I think Sapp's right in that Bruce isn't making the decisions but I do think the draft board is coming from Kyle Smith, not Dan Snyder. But Bruce will definitely take credit for it when it goes well and point the finger at McCloughan or whoever he needs to when it doesn't go well. That much Sapp is right about.

Seriously, fire Bruce and go to Trent with a mea culpa. Here's a couple extra million for your trouble big guy. We're sorry. We're firing those who did you wrong and hiring someone who can handle business like a grown up.

If we trade Trent for a shitty return I think my head will explode. #FireBruceAllen
