.......evidently you're incorrect becuase if the NFL is going to fine your players take away draft picks from your team and suspend your head coach and bann your former D cordinator.....it's a big deal.

Looks like Gibbs 1.0 was handing out cash himself for "big plays". Granted, it was under the rules at the time because there were no rules regarding this.

"In the meeting after the game, Joe Gibbs would come in, he’d have a fistful of $100 bills," Starke told ESPN on Monday night, via The Washington Post. "And if Dexter (Manley) knocked the quarterback down three times, he would get three $100 bills. And Joe would pass the money out in the meeting, and we would have to duck."

Gibbs told the Post on Tuesday that such incentive-based pay was within NFL rules at the time.

"In my first stint coaching the Redskins, we did have an incentive program in place to recognize the guys for outstanding plays made within the rules of the game," Gibbs said. "Back then there was no salary cap and the incentive program we used was within the league rules. We had all kinds of incentives, including dinners at local restaurants, radios, the chance to sit in a La-Z-Boy recliner during team meetings and cash rewards. To be clear -- we only used rewards as a motivational tool and to recognize the guys who made positive plays in the game each week."

Not only was it legal under Allen and Gibbs 1.0, but the medical community didn't understand the repercussions of repeated concussions on players. My whole family was going crazy when Dexter Manley knocked Danny White out in the playoffs and I'm sure he got a "bonus" the next day. But I don't think anybody viewed it as hurting him, just knocking him out.

I didn't post that to say OMG LOOK GIBBS WAS DOING IT. I even said there were no rules in regards to this type of activity. I posted to show it's was/is a common thing.

i just wish someone would show me what hits were illegal and not punished. also if all of this is so bad then why are the only people who are complaining are in the media but players and former player dont see an issue

One of the issues, and in the end the one that makes it a big problem, is that the Saints and GW were told they were being looked into, and told to stop specific practices. They agreed and said they would, but then kept doing it. I am sure there were ways they could have altered it, and been in compliance with what the league was looking for, but they chose not.

That's a problem, and they are probably gonna get hammered.

Gibbs admits to giving bonuses for big plays within the rules, and back then it wasn't against league policy either.
