Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
I'd feel sick, but I wouldn't be surprised, given that all the decisions have been bad this season. Wilbon's take is right on:
Michael Wilbon: Okay, I'm here and ready to roll. We start, of course, with the Redskins. They stink. They don't seem to have any fire. It's hard to identify the team leaders. It's even harder to understand what in the world the coaches are doing. It's a mess. Gibbs sorta acknowledged the game had passed him by when he turned over calling the plays to Al Saunders. And you can't let a kid quarterback just sit on the bench forever, especially not when you've spent No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 picks to get him and your incumbent QB is on his way out. So much stuff makes no sense...like trading for T.J. Duckett and not using him. Like having a big, strong and tough back like Mike Sellers and not using him in goal line situations. Every time I'm around other teams in the NFL, people who work or play for that team come up and ask, "What in the hell are the Redskins doing?" It's unbelievable how curious people are about such a bad team...And it's because Gibbs is the coach and because the Redskins spent so much money (again) ill-advisedly, according to them...What a mess. They were the only sad-sack team in the NFL yesterday...Well, maybe Arizona. At leas the Giants had five starters injured and out. What was the Redskins excuse? They had no fire, played with no apparent purpose, and looked bad in every phase of the game...like they beat Dallas last week and spent the rest of the week thinking they were good. If you matched the Raiders and Redskins tomorrow in a game at a neutral site, I'd take the Raiders. At leasy their defense appears nasty and passionate.

isn't Philip Rivers playing? had an NFL snap? practiced consecutive days with the first team? removed all his splinters from the clipboard?

I completely agree with your sense of logic because it makes all the sense in the world. The thing that's so disheartning is that Joe Gibbs obviously dosen't see it that way, and that's disturbing to us as fans. He will be the first one to recognize, and pay respect to the fact that this team has great fans, and a great fan base, but to insult our intelligence by constantly attempting to make us believe Brunell is playing well, and the problems with the offense are not due in part to his ineptitude is just plain misleading. For the life of me, I cannot understand why it's so difficult for Gibbs to just come out and say Brunell is not playing well, and move on in another direction which will benefit the team long term. It's time to see what we have in Jason Campbell, he may not be the answer either. He has his critics already despite the fact we haven't seen very much of him. If he's not the answer, what better time to find out than now?

If the season is lost, what would the point be to play Collins? Wouldn't this be saying that there is no confidence in Jason Campbell, and that game experience for him would not benefit the team? That's what it would tell me. I think Collins only plays if the coaching staff truly believes we still have a chance to make the playoffs...and that's quite a stretch right now.

And how long did Phillip Rivers stay on the sidelines holding that clipboard?

Rivers had been a backup since '04.

Campbell is not gonna get any younger...Rivers is 24, and will turn 25 in December.

Re: How will you feel if its Collins instead of Campbell?
Oh, Rivers was born in '81, so that makes him around 25 or 26.
edit: Will have a birthday in December, so he will turn 25. One year younger than Campbell... not really much to argue about.
