Schneed you are dead on as far as cap savings. In addition the NFL implemented another rule after the Lavar Arrington fiasco that prohibits a player from returning a signing bonus in order to gain cap credits. When Lavar "returned" $4 million of his bonus the Skins got this credited to their cap, but after this happened the NFL changed the rule and teams no longer can gain cap space for this type of transaction. So even if AA said "here take back part of my signing bonus" the Skins would not get any credit for the refund. |

Re: Drafting a safety.
What kind of leverage do you think he'll have: "OK coach, yes I DID get beaten like Malcolm's fiancee each game, but do you really think I'm going to take a pay cut?!"

Re: Drafting a safety.
i understand what your gettin at and your right, he would have no reason to, i was thinking along the lines of restructuring to a more incentive laden deal, but why would he do that either? I guess im still just hoping that we didnt make such a horrible decision getting after him. I was really hoping we could use him like we did Bowen, but w/ the injuries we had this year on DL and CB we couldnt really run alot of those packages w/o people taking deep shots as soon as we bring that package in.

Re: Drafting a safety.
We need to draft dline and then a corner later in the draft. It would be great if we could trade down in the first round and pick up some extra picks. We also need some decent backup oline and another LB too.

Re: Drafting a safety.
Safety is the last thing they need to worry about right now. D-line and MLB are much bigger holes. They will do fine with the guys that are already on the team. Just like any sport, you need to be strong in the middle. Stopping the run is goal #1 just listen to any of the embarrassing press conferences.

This year our line was being blown off the ball in the run game and getting little push in the pass game. I think Andre Carter is bad for our philosophy, but we could build a different philosophy around his skills. That would require us to replace the other 3 guys. Sign a CB, Sign a MLB, draft on the DL.

This is an interesting article on our Safety situation (Prioleau). For better or worse our coaching guru's put allot of our chips into the AA pot. Prioleau was never more than a special teams type fill in player for us anyway. No telling how well he would have played if healty. Granted, I assume he would have been much better than what we got at that position. I don't know about you guys but this article does not make me feel good about Prioleau making an impact on our D. I disagree that Andre Carter isn't good for our style of D. He did come on very slowly but had some excellent games at that position. We need another big time DE at # 6 or a huge impact MLB. I actually think if our front 7 comes together and our Secondary stays healthy we'll be right back into the top 10 next season. What do you think? |

Re: Drafting a safety.
TEAMS WANTED COLT BRENNAN?
Rich Miano, UH's liaison to the the NFL, said the Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins were interested in taking Brennan in the first round of the 2007 draft. A Miami official told Miano: "We have the ninth pick, and we'd love to take him." A Washington official said: "We'll take him in the first round." The Redskins have the sixth pick in the first round. this bewildering information came from the honolulu advertiser (i was unable to post the actual link because my account is a noob...that is definatley retarded. Why can't I post the link admins?) Why would the FO be looking at this guy? |

You have to scroll down a bit to Jan. 18, 2007. It all sounds so odd though

Re: Drafting a safety.
I totally agree with you. That tidbit made me scratch my head. As if all we need to gel the team is the addition of a quarterback. Campbell is the guy, this is his team. I hope our quarterback situation stays the way it is, with Brunell our number two and Collins, the number three guy. If Vinny is smart he will stay away from qb's. I'm pulling for Anderson at #6...

Re: Drafting a safety.
Heres a suggestion, why dont we see what we have in Reed Doughty, sometimes other teams develop there young guys. There is no way he could be worse than Arch, hell he could be the guy we have been looking for. I dont know what way this team will go in the draft, but unless we trade down there is no way we will pick a safety.

Re: Drafting a safety.
We need help at CB, MLB and DL before safety. Hell I'd take a decent mid round prospect at OLB before a safety too. Prilouea(sp? gotta learn how to spell that) played it well for us and I feel he can play ti well again assuming his knee comes back ok. Fox didn't kill us so he'd be fine as a backup. Maybe another Clark type in FA for depth but ultimately I don't think we're going to go get someone better than Pierson.
However we could use some young depth at OLB so I see us almost assuredly using a late pick there. Our first pick ideally gets traded so we can get another pick(or two). If that happens then we get a MLB and maybe a tackle. I imagine the only DE we get would be an impact guy like Adams or Jackson. I could see a decent CB with any extra pick we gte from atrade. |
