Re: Don Imus
You don't have to hate black people to be racist. You only have to have an opinion about them which is based only on their skin color.
It should be noted that Imus was not alone in this. There was another man in the booth (I think his producer), and I can't be certain who said what. However, they were certainly in agreement. Imus' statements reflect his attitude and beliefs towards the people whom he described. He (or his producer) called the Rutgers girls "Jigaboos", which is only a very small step away from n*****. I cannot understand how somebody would refer to black people in this manner, without having some negative opinion. Based on that statement, Imus is racist. He clearly has a negative opinion about those people -- whom he does not know -- simply because of the color of their skin.

Re: Don Imus
You're right. I didn't do a good job defining the word racist.

Re: Don Imus
My uncle made a pretty good point to me tonight. He said "You know, if someone like Chris Rock said these comments, we wouldn't ever here about it"...
I kind of agree with him. Granted, I've despised Imus for quite a long time, but I think my uncle had a point. IMO I think the only reason he got yanked was because the advertisers pulled out. It was merely a business decision, so don't give MS NBC any credit for being "noble" or anything to that cause. Imus is and always has been a bastard... so I don't think that's any news.

Re: Don Imus
I dont know much about Imus, but I did watch the clip where he made that statement, plus I have seen the whole one on one with sharpton and his multiple apologies.
Look he said what he said, and honestly it might be good he did. It brought up an issue of racism that we usually try to hide. Now I am glad the public is out there talking about it. But just staying mad at him doesn't accomplish anything. You have to learn from the situation and move on.

Re: Don Imus
Wow, I didn't hear anyone say "jigaboos." That would make the incident worse, but I haven't heard anything else about the use of that term.
I don't think it was a horrible incident (and I'm pretty sensitive to racial issues), but I am certainly not going to argue with you GDAS. |

YouTube - Don Imus Apologizes for Racist Comments (with the comments) I don't want to defend the guy(s), but it seems like the term was used as a reference to some movie, perhaps (Spike Lee maybe). Unfortunately, I don't get the reference.

Re: Don Imus
It wasn't Imus that said jigaboos; it was one of the other guys with him. They were trying to reference School Daze - jigaboos (Rutgers) v. wannabes(Tennessee). Imus just agreed, well and called them "nappy-headed hos."

Re: Don Imus
His comments were not racist, I mean he said the Tennessee girls look good and they have plenty of black players on their team. It's simply a case of a jackass making a derogatory and offensive comment.
If you want to know racist, this is it (watch the end).
