So that's what's happening now. We're sticking to a plan.
If what is happening right now is a plan I think Snyder is a fool.
We're losing valuable time as every day passes...
Don't think Saunders and Williams haven't started working at their new jobs?
Unbelievable.

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

I have been a huge backer of snyder in the regards that he wants to win and spends tons of money trying(good or bad) But, this latest debacle of a coaching search makes it difficult to defend. GW had the backing of the players, these players loved GW. We saw for 4 years how these guys didn't lay down, or throw in the towel especially when we were losing badly those two years. I think it damages the moral of the players when the owner doesn't listen to the hearts of his players or common sense for that matter. The reason GW isn't here is because he wanted some control, and we will all have to face it, that with Dan and Vinny no coach of any quality will take this job if he cant have some control. Fassell, Mariucci,Meeks all want to be head coaches and will settle for about anything to get back in the game. The other guys Cowher, Spags, Mora, Carroll know they can not work under those rules and pulled out, or never even concidered the job. Dan Snyder has taken the easiest decision he would have ever had and turned it into a 3 ring circus and again has us as the laughing stock of the NFL. We have let a great person, and coach walk out the door when all we had to do was move him into the position and we could have kept going in the same direction we were going in. I dont understand the impatience of this front office, never wanting to build on success. they want to try and make radical changes to push us over the top, but those changes have done nothing but make us take a few steps back the years after we take 1 step forward.
I am just tired of all the BS, hire someone and lets get on with it. We are all ready behind 31 other teams in the NFL as far as getting ready for the draft. Oh wait, maybe not. I am sure Danny and Vinny all ready have the kid they want to draft, they just have to tell fassell who they are drafting.
what a joke this organization has become

I don't know if you specifically fall under this category, but I think it's pretty unbelievable that people make such a big stink about "We need a General Manager" "It's too much for the coach to handle both coaching and personnel moves" yet so many of these same people are upset because we're not giving control to first time coaches like Meeks and Spags or guys like Williams and Carroll.

There's that logic thing popping up again. I thought you were going to get that removed for the sake of 'continuity' on the board..

I think we're getting caught up in the media storm over this whole thing.. Marcellus Wiley on First Take this morning said that most of the players could care less at this point about what's going on. It won't affect them until March or so when they have to start the offseason regimen. The only ones who are really dialed in are free agents who don't know if they'll fit the new coach's system or not.

Like Snyder said at the outset, he's not interested in winning any more press conferences, he wants to win championships. If it takes him 6 weeks to get the guy who is going to accomplish that, then so be it.

I am one who believes we need a GM, but I dont think its a must have to win. Some teams have had some success not having a GM, but overall the success rate of teams with good GM's are much higher than those that don't. I dont want the coach to have entire control over the roster, but I do think they should have control over the coaching staff. I dont have a problem with Vinny and Danny being in on some personel moves, but the current structure hasn't provided much in the ways of winning seasons, playoffs and definately not conference champs or superbowls. Until this organization wins consistantly, makes playoffs, conf championships and maybe superbowls, this owner and front office will hear the same crap year in and year out. those who think its bashing may be right, but win and it stops, simple as that.

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

its a stupid front office structure and danny wants a coach that's not going to argue about it (which means you're passing on most of the top tier prospects immediately).

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

This is a funny thread.
If snyder only has respect from half of us warpath "hard-core redskins supporters" think of how much less he has for those that dont pull for the Skins.

The Gibbs hire temporarily gave him a boost in PR and respect but that has been reversed.

And regarding Coaching candidates.
It has been known for years as a player, if you want a raise and secretly want to stay with your team...talk to washington and you will get what you want...if your home team wont pay, washington will and you can play with your wallet rather than your heart.

When Snyder realized he couldn't buy a championship by buying players, he did it with coaches. Why is anyone suprised that coaching candidates talked to washington and suddendly got what they wanted at home?

It is a matter of the skins increasing prices for coaches and players.
Washington is being played a good portion of the time for personal gain.
To me...this certainly represents a lack of respect from both coaches and players.

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

this article from john mclain of the houston chronicle:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is difficult to tell which organization is more of an embarrassment — Washington or Oakland.

Atlanta had moved in front, but with the hiring of Patriots scouting director Tom Dimitroff as general manager and Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith as head coach, normalcy seems to have returned to the Falcons.

The Redskins and Raiders are running neck-and-neck to see which organization can become the most embarrassing in the NFL.

When Joe Gibbs retired as coach after the season, he said he would stick around to help the Redskins make a smooth transition. Just about everyone thought assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams would be elevated. Al Saunders would stay to run the offense. Jerry Gray would be elevated to run the defense.

Players on both sides of the ball endorsed Williams publicly, but Williams was fired Saturday. On Friday, ESPN reported that one reason Williams didn't get the job was because he criticized Gibbs in his interviews with owner Daniel Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato.

Anyone who knows Williams knows he wouldn't be dumb enough to criticize Gibbs in an interview. The leak sounds like something Snyder and Cerrato would put out to discredit the coach so many wanted. What better way to make Williams look bad than to say he was critical of the beloved Gibbs?

Jacksonville and St. Louis are interested in Williams becoming their defensive coordinator, and the Rams are interested in Saunders as offensive coordinator.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Snyder and Cerrato announced that Greg Blache, who coached the defensive line and had the title of defensive coordinator under Williams, would run the defense.

On Friday, Jim Zorn was hired as offensive coordinator, which means quarterback Jason Campbell will have to learn his third system in four seasons.

Now there's only one problem: The Redskins don't have a head coach. Will it be Jim Fassel? What about Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo? What a way to do business.

With Snyder and Cerrato running amok, longtime Redskins fans are reminded of the Steve Spurrier era. Snyder and Cerrato controlled everything, and the Redskins were 12-20 over two seasons.

I dont see anything in there about the fans

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

No need to defend Snyder, his actions speak for themselves. Just because you have enough money to buy an NFL team doesn't mean you have the competency required to run an NFL team.

I may not know what's going on behind the scenes but I do know this, what Snyder is doing feels and seems wrong. As with all things time will tell.

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

Ok.
Snyder has a plan...

Doesn't a Head Coach usually factor into the plan? It's been officially 1 month with NO coach. I'm not trying to bash anyone on their views, I'm just not understanding the 'plan' idea. The NFL is a 12 month job for a head coach. We're down 1. And I'd be shocked if anyone was truly excited about Fassel, Meeks or Mooch. Reminds me of the last few elections.... Pick the best of the worst. As someone already mentioned the best coaching choices will forever be leary of coming to Washington as long as Cerrato and Snyder run the team.

Not a hater. Just telling it like it is.
HTTR.

Re: Dan Snyder losing respectability?

So... Mora Jr. and Spagnoulo decided to stick with their own teams, Cowher is taking a 2 year hiatus, Carroll wasn't coming back without control, and all of a sudden this is a devalued HC job?? Sorry JLC, thanks for stirring the pot but I'm not buying.

I believe I heard Mora was offerred the job? and chose not to take it. It could have certainly been because he wanted to stay in Seattle giving the fact he will be coach next year. Spags wouldn't have been able to get his people, which I think was a huge factor in him resigning with NY. with Cowher, I truly believe he wasn't taking the job because of the front office structure and fact he wouldn't have control of personel or his staff. Money always talks, his hiatus would be only temporary if Danny offerred enough money.
