Re: Cowboys Extend Terrell Owens

It's not an excuse. Missing our top defender that day was undoubtedly a factor in TO's big day. Going back to their matchups when TO was in Philly Taylor always stepped up and helped to shut him down.

Any secondary that loses a Pro Bowl FS will see a drop-off in performance. Hence a big day by an opposing offense or WR.

I'll go out on a limb here, based on your comments and name I'll assume you're a Dallas fan. Are you from Dallas or anywhere in TX? Correct me if I'm wrong.

You know what nevermind, we got something for TO this year. Just remember we won the last time our teams met.
These teams have split the season series the last couple of years in a row, so I do not think any of us have much to brag about.

We could trade excuses all day long...no Taylor...Dallas clinched and did not come to play...blah blah blah. Six in one hand, half dozen in the other.

I would be careful with that statement though. Posting that is just like saying "we do not have quality depth".

T.O. avoids suspension. PFT.com

T.O. AVOIDS STEROIDS SUSPENSION
Posted by Mike Florio on June 9, 2008, 4:23 p.m.

Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens has been placed into a program of enhanced testing under the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, who once railed about confidential drug-use information being made public when the scoop wasn’t his, Owens failed to timely respond to a phone call attempting to arrange random testing.

Owens reportedly met with the league on the same day the team announced his three-year contract extension, and he offered a sufficiently “plausible” explanation for his failure to make himself available. Owens was not disciplined; instead, he can be randomly tested up to 24 times per year for performance-enhancing substances.

The issue came up only two weeks ago, and Owens has since been tested once, and passed it. He has never tested positive for steroids or other performance-enhancing substances.

The policy on anablic steroids and related substances has no grace period of fines. Instead, it calls for a four-game violation based on the first positive test.

And the league’s desire to ensure that player’s show up for random tests is understandable. If a player has opted to use a banned substance in the hopes of not getting tested decides to pretend that he didn’t get a call to show up and deposit a cup of, um, fluid for examination, the effort to catch players who break the rules is seriously undermined.

Interesting story, but I have to give the credit where it's due. I hate the guy, but he's got no history of testing positive and there's no evidence here saying he's been using. He's just a physical freak of nature, good for him.

Re: Cowboys Extend Terrell Owens

When I saw the news on ESPN - I knew someone would bring this up.. Just like Schneed said, I hate this guy! But I highly doubt TO took steroid or any illegal substances.. It's bound for some players sometimes to miss the appointment or forget to call back..

Re: Cowboys Extend Terrell Owens

I think the ESPN article said that Owens went to the NFL offices in New York on his own and took a test last week and was good to go.

The real issue seems that the NFL is tired of not having his correct phone information.

Re: Cowboys Extend Terrell Owens

Not to change the topic all of a sudden but have you seen how many WR's we have and their size?
I looked at T.O. who is listed at 6-3 and 218.
We have 10 WR's right now:
1. Horace Grant...6-3...218
2. Malcolm Kelly...6-3...219
3. Maurice Mann..6-1...190
4. Billy McMullen..6-4...215
5. Anthony Mix....6-5...235 (maybe more according to the Redskins)
6. Santana Moss..5-10.200
7. Randel El.........5-10.190
8. Devin Thomas...6-1..218
9. James Thrash...6-0..204
10. Burl Toler.......6-2..185

I know that Moss, Randel El, and Thrash are the only real vets on the team but if any of the others turn out to be decent we would have several with some height.

Grant, Kelly, McMullen, Thomas, and Mix all have roughly the same size as T.O. Only if they can turn out to play like him.....

Toler and Mann are a little light but are tall enough to be special also.

Not one guy on this list has the skill set that T.O. has. The only thing some have in common with the guy is size. Hopefully Kelly and Thomas can develop into something special like T.O.

Put one season under his belt, and I just have this feeling that Kelly will be the perfect combination to go with Cooley in the Red Zone.

Two viable BIG targets in the Red Zone for Campbell to go to. And if they stretch the short field, Portis under the coverage. That is kinda scary.

Re: Cowboys Extend Terrell Owens

I agree that the TO thing is not really an issue. It would seem that he must have been able to prove to the NFL that he had a new cell phone number which would not be that hard to do.

Oh, I agree. All the rest are rookies except about two or three who have maybe 1 yr under there belt. ie: Mix, and I think McMullen. Any way. Kelly has the potential. I like to think Mix might turn out to be something special also if he stops trying to get LB/Safety weight. For some reason Horace Grant interests, and McMullen interest me also. Only because of their size. They may not be able to catch a cold though. but......wouldn't it be great if a long with Moss and Thomas's speed we have sizable WR's that for what ever reason shine and put up the numbers.

I could see us keeping Moss, El, Thrash,...obviously Kelly, and Thomas, then have Mix and McMullen. We would have three to four WR's with size a long with the vets. Out of those we would have two speeders if we chose to run two speed routes on the same play...Moss and Thomas or stick with an all over 6 ft play. Imagin Kelly, Thomas, Mix and McMullen...4 wideouts a long with Cooley and Davis.

What about Devin Thomas, he's got height too, and is a very physical reciever.

Not really. There are good quality players and then there are great players. I classify our depth at that time as good but not great, based on lack of experience. I classify T.O. as a great player, just not when he faced Sean Taylor.
