The effort to build the new stadium will become serious the moment Jerry Jones' new stadium becomes the biggest in the NFL next year. Dan and Jerry maybe good friends, but they are extremely competitive and Dan won't be able to handle Dallas having the bigger stadium....

Re: Rfk 2

The big question is how many more yrs do the Skins have on their lease in MD? If it's not long I'm sure a bidding war will begin and that benefits Snyder. If MD is not interested in keeping the Skins which I doubt then DC could put any price on a stadium.

I don't know if you can call it a lease. It was a deal between the 2 to cover infrastucture by the added tax base and the forcast of how long it would take to pay for the things, also what do you do with and empty NFL stadium that holds 90 thoudsand people. The whole complex has been built around that stadium, home values ....nope they can't just pullout.

I agree with you but when Snyder wants something he makes it happen. MD could use it for concerts, DC soccer..United, or any number of other things. They might have to do some reconstruction though.or tear it down and put some thing nice on it like a park for the public or turn it into a mall.LOL.

To big for DC United and there is a brand New Mall across the Beltway(part of the rebuilding of the area) also as part of the original deal there is a sports complex for the kids sitting right be side FedEX.I thought about University of Maryland but they just re did theit stadium am and could not afford to buy anything or keep it up,the Danny would need to sell yet the value is in the Stadium, so you can't tear it down.

I think that I read that it was constructed with the ability to easily be converted into a shopping or office complex.

Let's here on out call the new stadium - Gibbs Field. Sure, it'll have some corporate moniker, but Joe deserves something more than signage in the ring of fame. As someone said before, he needs hometown enshrinement.

Re: Rfk 2

The new Cowboys stadium was orginally supposed to cost $650 million, the stadium's current construction cost is in excess of $1 billion. This is in Texas where land is a fraction of the DC area costs and the cost of construction is also much lower.

With the economy in bad shape, our federal and local government budgets running at huge deficits, and our national debt multiplying at a quick rate, I do not see this happening anytime soon.
It is not the best time to try and borrow $1billion right now, even for Snyder. The federal goverment is giving billions to keep financial and lending institutions afloat.
I do not think the DC area tax payers are going to vote yes to put up bonds to finance this.
IMO it is not going to happen.

All I want in the New stadium is for it to Rock just like RFK. Probably not going to happen though.
