Smaller government means what? Defund schools, hospitals, and museums. Then spend all the surplus money on millitary contractors and police. Seems liek the same ole bigger government aka wealth redistribution to me. Instead of building the social infrastructure we send billions to millitary contractors. Find me a real contrast. Both Democrats and Republicans are socilaists, learned that from tramp (trample the elderly). both want huge deficits and bigger govermnment i.e. Ronald Reagan.

I think there's an argument to made that both parties adhere to socialist tenets more than they are willing to admit.

Yes, you are right. Smaller Federal government means getting rid of the Department of Education. Seeing how they're doing such a wonderful job now, I'm all for it. I don't see why it's the tax payer's responsibility to fund "Art"?

I'm not too sure about government run hospitals. I wouldn't say VA hospitals have a great reputation from all of the news lately, but I think this has been corrected for the most part. Some are the best in the world from what I've heard.

Yes, both parties are militaristic. Both parties use our military to advance the agenda of Corporate America.

I would disagree on the local level. Many local politicians disavow themselves from their national party, yet reap the rewards or penalties of having a D or an R next to their name. They have to get results.

On the Federal level they're nothing but pigs at a trough. You don't hear the left screaming about the war now that Jorge Bush is out of office. That's because they're getting that contractor money now. Most of them don't give a shit about American soldiers.

I didn't like Tim Kaine as my governor nor did I like Mark Warner. Both though were alright at their jobs. Tim Kaine is very different as the governor than he is as the head of the DNC. He cuts and dodges the liberal agenda when he speaks to us. He knows he'd piss off the public and ruin the chances for the next D.

It's worth noting that we won two seats last night. One in Cali and the one in NY-23. The Dems also plucked the mayoral race in Charlotte, N.C. last night.

Charlotte does not count, Obama got nearly 75 percent of the vote. That's how Obama won North Carolina.

I pointed out Charlotte because Mecklenburg county is the largest county in the state. So the significance of having an Obama supporter running the city can't be understated. It's not about electoral votes, per se, but keeping a solid infrastructure and ground game in place come 2012. It's a pretty big deal.

On the flip side, it will be more of an uphill battle in VA and NJ now that Republicans run the state, not to mention that we lost some electoral votes in both places.

Re: Election Day Comments

And let me say that Reagan's magic wasn't his policies. It was his ability to listen to the other side. He didn't give conservatism a bad name. He was a respectful man and honored the office. Sure he made some missteps, but every president does.

Where do you think Blue Dog Dems originated from? It was Reagan. Yet today they identify with and caucus with Democrats. Modern day Republicans and conservatives found no room for them in the party.

Reagan was a lot smarter than the buffoons wielding his name for conservative street cred today. Very smart politician.

Actually over half of those people who voted republican in VA said that it was just because Creigh Deeds had ideas with no plan. Not so much that they are opposed to the Obama administration.

I don't remember hearing any of Deed's ideas that were worth a damn?

All McDonnell had to say was, "I'll drill for oil". Bam! You've got my vote!

pretty original. how long have you felt this way? when you heard it at the RNC? you had 8 years of Bush, with another 6 of a republican backed congress. your voice wasn't very loud back then. as they say, hindsight is......

Drilling for oil got your vote. we could nerver compete on a teh World market wiht teh arabs no matter hiow much oil we find.

1. Oil is cheaper for them to produce at a higher quality.
2. They don't need for us to buy their oil to get our money. The Chinese will buy their oil with our money. India will buy their oil with the money they make form our jobs.
3. Our advantage over our enemies is technology. We need to use technology to win this battle.

The West invented oil production. Middle Eastern countries still use Western contractors to run many of their oil fields. You don't know if it would be cheaper for VA to produce oil since there hasn't been a discovery yet. For all we know there could be a large basin of light sweet crude on the continental shelf. You seem to forget that we buy most of our oil from Canada and Mexico, not the Saudis. How would it not be cheaper for Virginians to get oil off our own coast, than to ship it from the Mid-East or truck it in?

Yes, you do have a point with the dollar. There is a double edged sword to having the world flooded with US dollars. Our exports are cheaper. What we export besides our factories and jobs, I don't know? That is the theory though. You'll get no arguement from me about the weak dollar.

Technology will only get you so far. The US doesn't have the market locked up on intelligent people. The Russians have a better space program right now. Also, that technology does us no good if it's never used. High priced weapons platforms are a waste of tax dollars IMO. Why buy all of this fancy crap that we'll never use? IMO nothing beats the bayonet, fire, and the will to use them both on your enemies without mercy.

The only drilling off Va. is going to be natural gas not oil.
