Re: Which Jersey...
Back when we frequented the same bar for games, a buddy of mine and I kept talking about getting jerseys of the Hogs and sitting at the bar exactly how they lined up.
Here are a few that haven't been mentioned yet: 25 - Joe Washington 54 - Kurt Gouveia 55 - Mel Kaufman 74 - Markus Koch 77 - Darryl Grant

Re: Which Jersey...
ROFL. Right up there with a Zendejas. Or the Ade Jimoh suggestion. A throwback Jimoh would be Barry Wilburn. Anyone remember that waste of oxygen?
I liked Sanders too. The thing that stops me on Sanders is that I actually met him two years back at the Hall of Fame induction for Monk/Green. I was standing in line to take a leak and recognized him and talked a bit. Real nice guy. BUT... he was as wide as he was tall. I mean the man turned positively round. Nothing wrong with the per se, but now I have that picture stuck in my head! Just doesn't fit my football mental image:-) I think I have narrowed it down to Lachey, Coleman, Houston, or Didier. Seeing all these names and all of these suggestions does make me a bit sad for my kids though. They will never grow up having such a large number of players they can identify with. Free agency pretty much killed that. As a kid I always knew that I would see the Hogs(including Didier and Warren) year after year. I would see Okie, Kaufman, Coleman, Gouviea, Milot and of course Mann, Manley and Butz. The skill positions would change some(Riggins/Monk/Clark were stalwarts) but that always happens. Remember names like Virgil Seay, Alvin Garrett, Charlie Brown? Hell what about Otis Wonsley, Doc Walker and Mike "I-Never-Fair-Catch" Nelms? Things just change so much now. I think the game misses it, to be honest. |

Re: Which Jersey...
Tons of great responses. To address a few:
Mosley -- way to pretty. And a kicker. I don't wear kickers numbers. Charlie Taylor/Larry Brown -- Awesome guys. I just have no memories of them really. The wayback vault only has room for a few from them. I started watching football when I was about 7 and the fuzzy memories are really of two guys. Chris Hanburger and Pat Fischer. So, in the end, I went with #37 Pat Fischer. One of the hardest hitting corners you will ever see and had more interceptions than D. Green. The guy was just a 4 foot nothing mad dog out there. If you never saw him take on Harold Carmichael it is hard to understand. I did find another site that was selling cheap jersey's though, and I bought some Christmas presents(3 Grimm's + Orakpo) -- and one of the Grimm's is for myself as well. Hopefully these hardnosed players will provide some good karma for our year. We sure need it. Only way we win games this year is to junkyard dogs. |
