Anyway, if it's axle bearings you're looking at about $200 per side plus labor. That's not too bad. If they're nice they'll try to get Toyota to pay for it. They're more likely to pay for axle bearings than wheel bearings.

I'd be surprised if it your diff. It sounds like a bearing to me. Unless your diff is dry, I doubt that it would go bad so soon, under your driving habits.

peter78 is giving me shit maybe i am just an over sensitive bitch coupled with i could care less about that form.

Thanks for your help cpayne i will keep you posted.

Labor is always more then the part so you are probably looking at $500 to do the axle bearings.

Do you have a 4runner?

Re: F...Toyota

ANY major component going down with that kind of mileage is clearly defective, unless you flog the golfin' shit out it
Including bearings, diffs, etc

Yeah, I've got an '05 SR5 V6. We bought it brand new and has, I think, about 78k on it right now. I can't see us ever selling it, honestly. I'd love to have another one, actually.

My wife drives it day-to-day, mostly, though she's got an S2000 and Jeep Rubicon, too, so she rotates. HA

Here it is being wheeled with 30 day tags on it (I had just bought it the day before)...

Well, I wouldn't say it's defective, but it's certainly not common under normal circumstances. It does happen, though. Attribute it to bad luck. Everybody experiences it at some point.

Re: F...Toyota

We will see what they say tomorrow anything short of we will replace it under warranty will proceed with me driving to the Toyota dealership then driving the 4runner to carmax to turn it in.

??? The 4Runner is one of the best, off the showroom floor offroaders you can buy. In the world of car-based SUVs, it's real 4x4. I'm glad that Toyota realizes that there are people out there like me who still want a body on frame SUV that doesn't compromise too much wheelability for comfort. It's a perfect fit for me.

I'll buy yours for $5k right now.

oh ok, i bet car max will give me 16 or 17

i could sell it on my own for 18 19 maybe 20.

I am willing to bet it is not the wheel bearings that is way to easy diagnose they would have easily said it was that right off the top. Plus my guy shook each rear tire in front of me and they were solid as a rock.

Unless the vehicle has not been taken care of, those types of things should never go down (at that mileage). 60k is nothing on a decent car built today, especially Toyota. They are known for exceptional reliability.

Don't stop at the dealer if they say no. Go up the chain to regional. Be calm, be nice, and they may make it right. They are trying real hard to maintain their reputation.

I'd love to, but I can't. Too many vehicles (and not enough garage space) as is. I'll buy another one one day, but not any time soon, probably. Whoever buys yours will get a great vehicle.
