Although Rex seems like the safe pick, I also think he's in a position to make him the #1 FA QB available. That said, I don't think any team will break the bank for him, so if we want to, we should be able to resign him.

Personally, i think we should trade whatever we have to to get Luck. Seriously, the dudes going to be one of the best QBs ever. I'd trade our 1st and 2nd this year, plus our 1st rounders the next two years to move up 5-6 spots to get him.
I think we will be closer to the 11th spot. Right now the standings are:
Car 2-12
Cinci 3-11
Den 3-11
Buff 4-10
Det 4-10
Az 4-10
Min 5-9
Houst 5-9
SF 5-9
Clev 5-9
Wash 5-9
Dal 5-9

Draft ties are decided by strength of schedule(weakest schedule goes first), and we and Dallas had the strongest schedules out of this group. Carolina, Denver and Cincinatti are guaranteed to be ahead of us, since they at worst would tie us. So our absolute best draft spot is number 4, if we lose both games, and everyone else wins out. Dallas will likely beat Arizona, so Arizona will be below us. Anyway, if it were held today we would pick either 11th or 12th.

I don't know these qb's, so I can't say much about who we should get, but over 8th position it's going to be hard to jockey around enough to get any of the top qb picks (unless they free fall like last year)

Then we can give him the David Carr treatment, leaving him to be savaged behind a subpar O-line. No thanks if it means trading away the top of our draft for the next three years.

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

Luck is a first overall pick no matter what. Please grasp this guys. I want Luck more then anyone but there is zero chance that we are in position to draft him short of trading our first round picks for the next five years in exchange for the number one overall pick. This guy is bar none the best draft prospect since Peyton Manning. Others come close based on their draft day value but no player will be as highly regarded on draft day as Luck will be.

On top of that the only way to get Luck to come out this year is to have a CBA that allows the current rookie wage system to stay in place for one more year. Other then that it's back to Stanford to try and win a national championship.

Carolina likely has that pick. I don't know a lot about them, but they are a smaller mkt & probably not a rich team per se. They may not be too happy w/spending #1 pick money.

If Luck is comin out this year, I wouldn't put it past the Skins to make a play for him. The most encouraging factor in that is that Allen will get a much better deal than vinny would've.

Carolina has Jimmy Clausen, so I don't believe they would be making a play for any other QB in the draft this year. You are correct though, Carolina isn't exactly a big market.

Couldn't agree more, especially having seen him play a lot. The guy is one tough SOB.

Will you people stop saying trade. We get hosed on trades unless we trade and get more picks. We have no business trying to trade up for any player in the draft. We do not have a 3rd pick this coming draft.

Is that legitimate scoop or coal in the stocking?

A little from column A, a little from column B.

Seriously though, he's one of several names who have been mentioned as possibilities. Locker and Newton are commonly mentioned as guys the Skins will target in the draft (Locker more so than Newton), which of course means we'll take Mallett.

One of the Shanahan apparently likes Locker more than Newton, the other Newton more than Locker. We'll see who, if either, wins out. Either way, both supposedly agree that Locker and Newton aren't quite ready for NFL play so they will look for someone to hold down the fort in 2011, Perhaps for all of 2011. Among the candidates to hold down the fort that I heard last week (granted this was before The Benching) were the fairly obvious choices: McNabb, Grossman, Beck (yeah, I don't really get it either), and Alex Smith (along with Marc Bulger and Bruce Gradkowski, both long shot considerations though).

There's also some thought that Shanahan thinks maybe he can do for Smith what he did for Plummer, and that really all Alex Smith needs is some consistency, instead of having to learn a new offense under a new offensive coordinator every year (sound familiar?)

But, as I've mentioned before, this Redskins front office is much tougher to figure out than the previous one. It was pretty easy to get inside info, even as I move further to the outside, with Vinny in the house. That's the one thing I miss about him being there

No way Mcnabb is coming back so it will probably be Grossman. Not quite sure what everyone sees in Jake L. I've only seen him play a few times and was not impressed at all.
