The RED-ZONE execution is once again a big concern but it is just Pre-season game 1. It was a breath of fresh air to see our backs moving in such a quicker pace.
One more troubled spot that I saw, was the miscommunication between Josh Wilson and the safety after Wallace flew down the sideline.

I would agree. I absolutely freakin hated the screen pass call on 2nd down the first team, first drive. I dont effing understand why Kyle go more aggressive down there, everyone knew Pittsburg was gonna bring 2 blitzers every down in that sequence. Kyle needs to grow a pair, split 4 wide and move Rex to shotgun let him read the d or at least make them react.

John Keim is one of my new favorite writers.

Quote:
14. Yes, rookie Leonard Hankerson needs to work on his hands. His eyes definitely turned up on his one drop. This has to be maddening for the coaches because it’s been a camp-long issue – and it’s a problem he dealt with in college. Maybe he’ll never get it, but you don’t give up on a third-round pick who has legitimate talent because he’s dropped too many passes in the first two weeks of camp. They knew this issue existed before now; they need time to see if they can correct it. If you trade for a young left-hander in baseball who is wild, do you cut him after he walks several guys in his first game? No; you see if your coaching can get you out of it. If they cut him because he drops the ball, then why draft him in the first place?

15. I do wonder about Hankerson coming in and out of breaks. On some routes he’s not using his body well enough, as he showed last night. He gets more open on routes where he doesn’t need to plant quickly and cut, like on the play where he dropped the pass. But the kid does try and pick up tips from the vets. Maybe he’ll never get it, but once you pick him you must try and develop him.

Surprised people are just now discovering Keim. But yes, he's great

Yep, he is. Think I'm kicking the WaPost down a notch for Keim.

How long has he been around? I've been consciencely following him since camp began. I would read the Frederick paper on local feeds in earlier years, but never noticed his name.

The WaPo has been down a few notches for a while now IMO

Yeah, it started with JLC and his blatant bitterness towards the team he covered. Since then it's just gotten worse. The WaPo simply doesn't have an analyst on par with Kiem and hasn't had one close in years. In addition, they really don't have any insider info at this point. They may get player quotes a bit faster than the nationals but not by much.

In short, no quality analysis, no inside information = national news with sprinkles.

If Keim starts hooking into true insider team sources for the hidden tidbits, he would be the news outlet. Maybe he has, and I just haven't seen it.

I think I owe it to myself to replace Redskins Insider on my Chrome favorite bar with the Examiners coverage. Obviously the WaPo isn't what it use to be in regards to Skins coverage (Capitals Insider is still good though). Granted Skins ownership isn't exactly innocent but I'm still a football fan first and foremost.

I hate to say it but since JLC left it hasn't been as good. He was a leader in that kind of constant-flow immediate reporting at the time. The insider was sorta revolutionary 5 years ago. Now everyone does it. The new guy isn't nearly as good as JLC or Reid were. Not even close.

JLC was bad long before he left. Granted at one point he use to be THE MAN when it came to Redskin beat writers, especially during the Gibbs II era but after that he just became bitter and lost any sense of objectivity. Even now he bashes the team on NFL Network and loves talking about how bad the O-Line is, like its the same exact group from 09 after Samuels went down.

I miss Thomas Boswell. Mike Jones the new guy, who is he?

Mike Jones covers the Washington Redskins for The Washington Post. A native of Warrenton, Va., he got his start in journalism covering sports for his hometown paper, The Fauquier Citizen, in 1999 and eventually became sports editor. Jones went on to cover the Washington Wizards for the Washington Times and CSNWashington.com from 2007 to 2010 before covering the Redskins for TBD.com for the 2010 season. He joined The Post’s staff in February, 2011.

One off the best passes Rex made was the one to Davis where he got hit and they knocked the ball loose.

Ryan O'Halloran and Rich Tandler with CSN, Rich Campbell with the Washington Times, and John Keim with The Examiner are probably the best places to get detailed Redskins info. There are several others as well, but those stand out

They have strong insider access...trust me
