DJ, I believe Gibbs knows that. He's going to make adjustments in the offseason and next year you'll see why alot of us feel like Portis is a great fit.

Redskins P,

The Minnesota pass defense is terrible but I didn't think their run defense is that bad is it?

Not sure how accurate this is, but I think they're ranked in the 20's.

Why DJ? Have we made you change your view on Portis?

Before Gibbs came back, when I used to speak of Gibbs, people ripped me for saying he was a "run, run, pass" kinda coach because he had called one more passing play in his coaching career than run. That said, I was also informed that nobody adapts to his talent the way Joe Gibbs does. So, if Joe Gibbs has to change the way he coaches, that's nothing new. And saying that he would have to change his coaching style isn't true. If his coaching style is to adapt, he's just doing what he always does. 1300 yards is one hell of a season, especially in 15 games with the line we had. He was only 300 some yards off of the NFL leader. That's not bad either. Portis will be a great fit here.

As for the second round pick, Michael Irvin actually said that if he was the Washington Redskins he would have made that deal any day of the week. When you really think about it, Champ wasn't coming back. No chance he was ever going to play another game as a Washington Redskin. So what did we really give up? A second round pick and a free agent we couldn't resign. I don't mind that at all.

If you have faith in Portis you must be smokin' crack. He can't get us a touchdown in the red zone and doesn't want to run for the hard yards. I've also heard that he has been doing a lot of improvisation. FRPLJ if you don't know what improvisation means go to www. websters.com

Calling you an idiot for making an idiotic statement is not what I'd call name calling. First off it is was meant in half joking matter as it is a commonly used quote to show you think the other person has said something stupid. Second off I have been around this forum for a while and never once been accused of anything like this so maybe you are a little too sensitive. Third off if I wanted to call you a name I would have called you something far worse. Get over it man.

Your evaluation of Portis smacks of a limited knowledge of football both in terms of skill evaluation and the business ramifications of any such move. I won't get in a insult fight with you but I do think you should try and understand how to discuss viable and logical options for improving the Skins. Getting rid of a top tier RB for a guy who doesn't even start for his team is just dumb. Sorry if calling it a dumb idea seems mean to you but it is just plain dumb.

many touchdowns did Portis have, not many.

L.COLES only had one touchdown, you wanna cut him too ?
and that td was thrown by PORTIS.

[QUOTE=djdunick]. A cover corner is much harder to come by then a quality runner. Every year Denver produces a runner that gets a ton of yards.

I WOULD SAY ARE CORNERS DID JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN CHAMP BAILLY THIS YEAR (sorry for the caps). also while watching the denver game the other night , i heard the anouncers talking about how denver is strugling this year scoring rushing touchdowns inside the 20 yard line as opposed to last year when they had portis. that tells me , that while denvers system may fit portis a little better than the skins system, portis was the reason for their rushing success, not just their system.

I just can't let this go. Irvin? We are now quoting loud mouth Irvin? Portis is from Miami or as Irvin puts it "The U", so any opinion Irvin has about Portis or any other Miami player is pure propoganda for his boys. Most of what comes out of Irvins mouth is nothing but excriment in general...

I think player for player the trade proved to be a wash so far, but I thought it then and I still can't figure out for the life of me why we needed to add a second round pick to that trade. That's long over and done with now though...

By the way aren't shutdown corners supposed to be able to shut down WR's like Chad Johnson, Jerry Porter, and which ever Colts reciever that he will face this weekend!!!!

I am sorry but Champ is not a "true shutdown" corner. I am not sure if there is one in the NFL anymore. I mean dont get me wrong Champ is good but I dont think that he is that good!! Just my opinion!!

look at Portis's carries this year and tell me again he doesn't want to run. 3 ypc (ie TOUGH yards) with a leaky OLine and conservative (ie. predictable, some even say outdated) offense and he still wanted more touches. almost 1400 yds and he played hurt all year too. didn't you claim Rod Gardner was our offensive MVP this year?
