Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
I don't think Moss' deal is a problem. I think we paid a decent amount and it wasn't like we restructured his contract.
I definitely agree we need to take a hardline position. It might make Drew revamp how he deals with teams.

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
OK several points.
1. Portis was drafted in the 2nd round and was getting paid squat for 2 straight 1500 yard seasons before being traded to the skins. He was a top 5 RB in the NFL getting paid like a 2nd or 3rd stringer at RB and at RB what is the average career 5-7 years max??? Come on apples and oranges 2. Moss was in the last year of his deal at $400K and was a proven player in the league who the skins traded for...if you trade for someone in their last year of a deal you are going to give them a new deal or they will sit out...Do you really think Moss would have showed up to camp for $400K after being traded??? 3. TO and Sean Taylor they still have MANY years left on their contracts...which they just signed last year!!! I know football is a risky business and you have to get paid when you can but jeeeez they just signed their contracts last year!!!! and they want new ones. Screw 'em let them hold out this year, next year, the year after and on until their contract is up and keep fining them for not showing up to work. What type of power/control do they have??? NONE!!! If they are disgruntled and hurting the team do what Gruden in Tampa Bay did to Keyshawn and put their butts off the team in the middle of the season so they can't play/practice etc...Heck buy them a big screen so they can watch the games...I might not like Snyder but that was hysterical the way he put it to Coles!! |

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
The NFL needs to take a stand NOW. I bet Taylor shows up to practices when he gets his ass fined daily for NOT coming.
In the end though, I think I'm looking way too into it. I think Taylor will show up and be fine. He has incenties built into his contract, and I think his sophomore stint will be a great one.

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
I believe there will be a major push to have this issue addressed and fixed in the next CBA. Perhaps adopting a rule such as the NBA that basically sets rookie contracts at 3 years and gives little to no wiggle room for teams or players.
An interesting idea I read somewhere changed the way holdouts would be handled also. Basically an "official" holdout would have to be registered with the NFLPA and the league. At that point the players rights clock would stop. Meaning if a guy "offically" held out with 365 days left on his contract then when the holdout ends he still has 365 days left on his contract. During the holdout he cannot be fined but he cannot get paid either. This would give players a lot less incentive to holdout unless they wanted to give up more time. A unofficial holdout would require a prohibitively steep per day fine of something like .5% of the current year salary and prorated bonus. For the big guys that would work out to some ridiculous numbers up into the hundreds of thousands. |

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
If they sign it they must play... Sound like a movie right???
Anyway what would happen if TO sits and the Eagles don't pay him. Then he sits another year, and the Eagles don't pay him... No way would he want to sit out 2 years back to back and he would definitely come back to play, but do the Eagles or any team for that matter have the patience to wait a player out???

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
Good points guys, but I would hate for him to go elsewhere... He showed a lot of promise... and immaturity as a rookie, but you know he is going to be a stud...

Taylor got jacked as a rookie with his contract. At least he's not pulling a LaVar and crying all over the media, and LaVar has no excuse because he got a contract more than he's worth already.

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
Hey Greyacre - He could have held out as a rookie, but he said he wanted to get into camp, and his contract is significantly less than other picks around him, which is how those salaries are made.
I hope you guys support something like when LaVar's contract starts coming to crunch years and he says no thanks to a restructure. I hope you support him, because god knows, he signed a contract and he should get every penny.

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
Why would LaVar agree to work with the Redskins on any more contracts, when he believes the team cheated him out of $6.5 million when he signed his last contract?
LaVar's situation and Taylor's/TO's situations are very different. The main reason people are up in arms about Rosenhaus's tactics with Taylor and TO is that those players' deals are only a year old. With Taylor, it's even more infuriating, because he's an unproven player. One moderately good rookie season does not warrant a contract do-over, particularly given Taylor's ass-clownish behavior off-the-field. The Redskins shouldn't re-do Taylor's deal until he proves he can stop making boneheaded plays both on and off the field. Let him make the Pro Bowl or lead the league in interceptions to make his money (triggered by incentive clauses in his current contract), and then talk about re-doing his deal. |

Re: Sean Taylor's Contract
The redskins need to draft more guys like Tom Brady that are willing to restructure or do whatever is needed to help the team win.
Unfortunately the redskins are stuck with a bunch of me, me,me guys that seem more concerned with getting $100 more than the next guy than with winning a championship. When the redskins focus more on player character/intelligence than athletic ability they will start winning. |
