according to what i've read, there is a good chance he'll also be franchised as well . . . though i would love it

It says, dream, not common sense.

Actually a decent list.

You know, Eric Weddle at FS with the connection with Joe Barry over Goldson? That is something I wouldn't be opposed to on a 1-2 year deal.

On paper I like the idea of Weddle, but two concerns. 1, would he really be that much cheaper on a one year deal than what we're about to pay Goldson, $8M? If anything Weddle might be pricier. Goldson is overpaid at that $8M figure but Weddle figures in line to get $8 - $10M on a one year deal.

Second concern, unless we're talking about a longer term and legitimate solution, I hesitate to let Goldson walk because of the impact it has on the locker room. I hated the Vinny culture, let our own players go and bring in the new hot free agent. It especially hits morale in the locker room when it happens to a highly respected player like Goldson.

I like the culture you breed when you draft your own and care for your own. Granted Goldson wasn't drafted but he's respected, and I want our young guys to have good examples to look up to, and I want them to see those kinds of guys being rewarded.

It's a philosophy that doesn't pay off on paper with talent but it pays off in the form of culture, work ethic, and attitude. If the next Sean Taylor was hitting free agency then it'd be different, but for Weddle at this stage of his career? I don't know.

Yeah I'd agree. Considering Weddle's price and age, might as well just stick with Goldson another year and try to restructure him.

I'd love matt forte at the right price. Hes always been my favorite Rb since LT left.

NT Harrison of the Jets would be a nice addition if the price is right. Add a first round D-Lineman - then the DL would be young and talented. Let Knighton and Hatcher go.

Re: Who is your dream free agent?

weddle is actually much better than goldson in coverage, at least he has been. but uh... i'm not a huge fan of throwing money at guys that might only have 1-2 good seasons left.

Re: Who is your dream free agent?

Nothing but garbage in free agency at the Center position. Stefen Wisnewski of the Jags is the best of the bunch. Solid pass protector, pretty average run blocker. Not a fit for what McC would like to do in the middle of the line - find bad ass maulers who are huge and physical.

Moving Long over might be worth a shot but I'm underwhelmed by that idea, he was just OK as a guard so the idea that he'd be better than OK at center seems unlikely to me. We have OK in Kory L, we need better than that.

Gotta go draft at Center in that 2nd or 3rd round. I hope they do.

Would you go after Mack now that he voided his contract with the Browns?

My preferred signings are Forte on offense and on defense either Laurinaitis or Weddle. Though he is about the same cost as Goldson, there's no question he's the vastly superior player. At one point Goldson was ranked 82nd out of 85 safeties in the entire NFL according to pro football focus.

I don't like any of the above. All have too many miles on the treads.

From that list, Lamar Miller, Danny Trevathan, Damon Harrison, and Colby Fleener all catch my eye. I know Fleener isn't the best blocker but I think he and Reed would be a deadly TE combo.

I'd be all in on any of the first three players you named. I'd prefer a blocking TE over Fleener.

Re: Who is your dream free agent?

Now that Josh Norman is officially tagged....

I'll stick with Danny Trevathan ILB (Broncos) & and add George Iloka S (Bengals).

Iloka is going on 26, so he should just be hitting his prime.
