And by implication, does the whole "former 1st round pick" analysis mean that the Ealges have a worse front office than us because they let Fraudie Mitchell go outright and received nothing in return? I'm not sure I see the point there. It's not like where you are drafted is a guarantee that you'll be worth your salt in the NFL. That's like saying Joey Harrington is worth a higher pick in a trade than Tom Brady because Harrington was a former first rounder and Brady was a 7th. Sorry, I just don't see the connection.

By the logic of a player being worth more just because he was a first rounder, then that means Heath Shuler was priceless! LOL

Re: Gardner to Panthers

Is a 6th rounder better than nothing like you thought we were going to get?

Re: Gardner to Panthers

Why are people whining about not getting what THEY think Gardner is/was worth when nobody offered it in the first place? If Gardner was worth a fourth rounder, heck if he was worth a 1st rounder, don't you think a team would have made the trade for him alot sooner?

Exactly. Thats what I'm trying to say. He's not even worth a 4th rounder.....so it doesn't matter that he got drafted in the 1st round. Like I said on my previous post -- HE NEVER LIVED UP TO HIS POTENTIAL

Damn, the Panther fans are obviously living in a larger fantasy world than most of us. Check it out.

Re: Gardner to Panthers

Guys, every fan sees things through his/her teams colored glasses. For Carolina, it is a very good pickup. A veteran starter that could be a good #2 or #3 WR. Basically a replacement for Muhammad. And on our end, we got something for a guy that's been a dissappointment and would've been released anyway. Not bad from either point of view. But Superbowl??? Uhhh....ok....BUT honestly in today's NFL, who knows! They are a only year removed from being in the big game. (I wouldn't bet on it though)

As for the arguement that he was a 1st round pick, that is irrelevant. Pierce was a no-name player that performed well and got rewarded with a good deal. Priest Holmes wasn't even drafted. Should guys like these not make more money just because they weren't drafted high? No, they have proven themselves on the field. It works both ways. I wouldn't exactly call him a bust, but Gardner has definitely underachieved, so he is not worth as much as his potential was when he was drafted.

Here's a quote from that site:

"oh yeah Nance, isn't Rod in the last year of his deal? I so, I would love to lock him up for like maybe 2.5 - 3 mil a year for about 4 years. I'm sure he'll wait till the end of the year though, unless he feels grateful for us taking him, oh well... I'M JUST HYPED ABOUT HIM COMING HERE."

Believe me, Rod would love to sign for $3 million a year. That'll be $60,000 a catch, if you're lucky. Or, about $75,000 a drop.

Someone else said that Carolina has the best WR corp now with the addition of Gardner.

Re: Gardner to Panthers

I'm going to agree with the first part of your statement. I mean Dyson comes in for us and we all expect him to contribute, but how much do we REALLY think he will? I mean at least we aren't saying he is the missing piece to our Super Bowl team.

Because you don't have a missing piece; you have a bunch of PIECES? The Panthers on the other hand are primed for a return; just two seasons removed from the big show.
We practically have the same core players, we were decimated by injuries last year at the beginning of the 2004 which short-circuited our season early but we rebounded late in the end and fell one game short of the playoffs.
This off-season the Panthers FO hasnt basically through FA and the draft filled every weakness we had comming into the season.
This team is more complete on paper than the one that made it the Superbowl in 2003. One of the few question-marks we had after loosing Moose was depth at the WR position.
Which has been answered now with the aquisition of Gardner he also brings a big, physical presence to complement speedster Smith and Colbert we lacked after Moose's departure.
We just need him to be Moose-like no-ones asking him to put up Moose numbers we have Steve Smith back for that. He's just another big target for Jake and another weapon for the Panthers SUPERBOWL run.

Thanks, for another one guys!!!
