Yeah, Robinson needs to go. BMW was better at tackle than him. I have been pretty hard on Heyer but he is a legitimate back-up tackle. I think the key to Heyer is his health. He can be decent in a pinch but just can't handle being an every down, every game guy. My biggest worry about the team right now is that Andre Carter is absolutly useless in pass coverage. Witten will have 300 yards against us if we don't figure that problem out. Orakpo is a cover corner compared to Carter but Orakpo has to be rushing not covering. Orakpo in coverage is a win win for the offense. |

Re: Redskins vs. Bills (Preseason Game 1) Thread
I wouldn't be too worried about LJ, he'll be the second back and get some reps next week. I mean, I'd be surprised if he's not in there against the Ravens.
That said, boy did the team look on the ball and prepared last night. The team looked "coached", for lack of a better word. This wasn't a team just trying to score points; They were following assignments, being where they needed to be, and having some fun along the way. That's what pre-season is about. Thank God Jim Zorn in Baltimore is all I can say. |

Re: Redskins vs. Bills (Preseason Game 1) Thread
Very nice game last night. We were in a groove on offense, even Rex looked pretty good!!! Torain and K Williams are keepers. I hope Shanny can keep both of them. It was nice to see Thomas come back after such a shaky start. After the first quarter I was starting to wonder if he was ever going to step it up and he did!! Would like to see Kelly do the same when he comes back, but to be honest would like to see an underdog WR candidate like Alexander make the team. Only time will tell. Would have been nice to see Galloway for a couple series, but I am sure we will see him next game, along with Johnson. Wish Wade would have done better, I liked him at Minnesota. I would caution folks not to get overly excited, just because of how Dallas did against Oakland. They looked sharp at the HOF game, but sucked against Oakland. Buffalo is a really sad team. We will do decently against Balt, but not light them up nearly as we did with the Bills. THe only real concern I have is about defensive depth. Our scrubs made the Buffalo second/third string backs look like Probowlers. IF we get a lot of injuries on the D, things might get dicey, but then again it is only game 1 of preseason. Overall a very solid game and also very promising one at that!!!!! I hate those smarmy Cowboy fans on the NFL.com message boards downplaying our performance, saying it was against Buffalo, when they looked like crap against Oakland. Romo sucked balls!!!!!!! If we look half as sharp against the Ravens, we will be smoking Dallas!!!!!! Shanny is going to have a hard time making cuts with some of the newbie talent.

Re: Redskins vs. Bills (Preseason Game 1) Thread
It's my 3rd time watching the game.
Notes regarding the defense: Henson looked solid digesting plays and making plays on the ball. Blades appeared to be lost. Carter may be a liability in pass coverage, most noticeably in the flats. I expect Alexander to get reps with the first team next week to see how he fares. He played well and didn't look like 'a DL trying to play LB'. Riley seems to have been a solid draft pick. He has a nose for the ball. Hall had an INT (Carriker pressure), Tryon had a couple of pass deflections against reserves. Starting defense seemed to settle down after BUFs first scoring drive. The front seven will need every one of these preseason games to iron out assignments and vulnerabilities. Fletcher still impresses after all these years. Haynesworth is a beast. He will make his presence known with the first team next week. Chris Wilson looks to be a natural 3-4 OLB. The offense: Let's give Beck more time before we mull cutting Brennan. Nonetheless, Grossman looks as if he's been running this offense for a while. He and McNabb made good decisions and used thier feet to convert a first down. McNabb was throwing darts and Cooley has hands of glue! Almost every combination of OL performed well. Oldenburg and William Robinson at OT are a little shaky. An illegal formation on Trent Williams and a false start on Edwin Williams were significant penalties (Trent Williams' negated a 30+ yard play). As much production as Torain had, I liked what I saw from Keiland more. Keiland makes 'something out of nothing'. Again, gaping holes contributed to Torain's stats. Devin Thomas had the third best recieving game behind Cooley and Roydell Williams. Yes, Thomas muffed a KOR and didn't catch a good ball thrown to him but, everything else he did was solid. Dennis Morris DNP. Daryl Young spelled Sellers. Wade's performance was overrated. I recall only one or two catch(es), an equivilant of misses and conversions by defensive pass interference. Special teams: I was hoping Austin would have a good showing as he would look to be a legitimate WR on the depth chart. Nada. Brandon Banks stole the show. He made me nervous not fielding one punt though. Armstrong and Austin caught some balls on offense but, need to be able to help in the return game to stick on 53 man roster. They didn't do much last night. Roydell recovered a muffed KOR. Bidwell is a stud. Game balls offense: Cooley defense: Hall sp teams: Banks honorable mention: Trent Williams, Roydell Williams

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it but those new video boards are awesome. I was down in one endzone looking clear across the field to the other side and it was clearer than my HD TV at home. And they have one in each endzone.

After the D's and O's first series I think both units played very well. I liked the fact that no matter who was on the field we seemed to play pretty good football. Williams really looked good last night.

Re: Redskins vs. Bills (Preseason Game 1) Thread
Diehard I agree with most of your commentary.
I must say some of the most impressive play came from the revamped oline. We have to remember a couple of points about the Bills regarding our run game and the oline play. They are converting to a 3-4 this year as well and that pobably had something to do with the running lanes. As our defense struggled in the first series with the run, and then was able to settle down and make some plays with our new defense, the Bills were not able to make the defensive adjustments we were. The Bills will struggle mightly this year and we need to look to our game against the Ravens next week as our first true test for the oline. If they play as well as they did tonight then I would say that we have something special in that first group. For all the crap I gave Heyer in the offseason, he played a very nice game last night.
