Re: Coaching Changes
Tampa would have been smart to bring in Schottenheimer and son over the other candidates they have spoken with. Either Marty told them he didn't want the job or his son hopefully put a clause in place that he can leave if his father gets a job somewhere.

Re: Coaching Changes
Brian and Marty had no intention of working together, and don't take it to be some sort of Father vs. Son battle
Meanwhile, Colts keep bringing Jim Tressel back for more interviews.

Re: Coaching Changes
Tressel would be good for Indy, just think of all the money that could be made off Peyton Manning memorabilia.

Re: Coaching Changes
I think Indy beleives Tressel will do what Harbaugh did with the 49'ers turn them around fast the 9'ers had alot better pieces in place already. IMO Tressel is not the answer who I don't know but not Tressel.

Re: Coaching Changes
I think if Tampa wants a quick fix then they should hire someone who's system is the WCO since they have been using that for so long. Bring in the right players and have a good draft and they might be contenders.
However I think Marty would be best for them because of his "get back to basics" of playing and details. Hiring Marty would mean changing from the WCO and basically "rebuild" should be the word used. If nothing else get Marty for a 5 yr deal, let him build a team to see what he can do. Atleast they would be in the playoffs every year. If he again fails to win the SB then bring in another coach who uses the same system. |

Re: Coaching Changes
That's what I'm thinking. Actually, his wiki page says he's 68, so I figured around Joe Gibbs' age. He probably could coach a few more years if he still has it in him. I have to say, the man is a good coach, I just hate that he's never gotten a chance to take a team to a Super Bowl as a head coach. He's come close, but no cigar.

Re: Coaching Changes
I just saw this on sportsnet, this amazing considering all the coaches they have been through!!!!
John Madden was the Raiders linebackers coach when Oakland hired him in 1969. He was the last head coach with a defensive background in Oakland.

Re: Coaching Changes
If he's brought into a situation where they want him to do the grunt work, and then let the "future" young coach take over, maybe that would work. Of course, I'd probably be a bit resentful if I put all the work in building a team and then letting some other coach take my team to the Super Bowl.
