Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
Who knows what other offers teams may have had on the table for Smith. There's not many viable options out there, and add in the fact it seems like a kinda meh QB draft class and I don't think a 2nd rounder for an established veteran QB is that crazy at all. Smith is better than some give him credit for.

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
From Rotoworld:
Giants re-signed LT Will Beatty to a five-year, $38.75 million contract. The deal includes a $12.5 million signing bonus, and $19 million guaranteed. It's a nice haul for a player who finally stayed healthy last season after missing 14 combined games between 2010-11. Three days shy of his 28th birthday, Beatty allowed just three sacks and 22 hurries in 967 snaps last season. He was never expected to reach free agency. With Beatty locked up for $7.75 million annually, Branden Albert and Jake Long will both target at least $8 million a year.

Yeah but when people say sanchez did that, most don't give him credit either they say it was because of the defense. Same with Grossman

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said a source told him the 49ers are not inclined to pursue Darrelle Revis at this time. So there's that Looks like Finley is going to be cut judging by his stance here. Jermichael Finley of Green Bay Packers says he won't accept pay cut - ESPN

Mind you, I don't think Smith was the sole reason for his failures. It mostly had to due with his surroundings and changing coaches every year. Still, you are expected to produce in this league. "No excuses" is the phrase I hear all too often. Quote:
Besides, who is really in the market for Alex Smith? Buffalo? Cardinals? Chiefs? (can't add Jets due to their salary cap) I simply don't think the demand is out there enough to warrant a 2nd rounder. Also, not many teams pursued him when he was a free agent last off-season.

I also think Alex Smith can start. He can win you games, he played well when that 49ers defense did not play well against the Saints in the playoffs. He will bring the Chiefs 6-8 more wins just because of the division they play in and the talent on the Chiefs. |

Last year his passer rating was 104.1. In 2011, it was 90.7. If you are a QB-hungry team, there are no other options out there with that kind of proven track record. Alex Smith | San Francisco 49ers | NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
its more than 3 teams. Cardinals were extremely interested, all its takes is one team to grab him.

He lost his job because Kap was handpicked by Harbaugh and has the higher upside. He certainly didn't lose it to performance, he was one of the highest rated QBs in the league when he got hurt. Say what you will about Reid has a head coach, but the guy knows QBs and he knows how to coach one up. I could see Smith playing really well for him in that offense. |

Re: Around the NFL Off - Season style.
alex smith is 100% worth a 2nd rounder if your team doesn't have a QB worth an ish.
the draft class looks bad at QB with no immediate impact players (and yes, you can always get lucky, but do you want to take a 5% chance of success with your job on the line?). the KC team has talent (pro bowlers et al), so it'd be nice if they could guarantee competent quarterbacking for a roster that's not as bad as it looked last year. |

I'm in agreement with you on this point. I definitely could see Smith playing well in that offense. I simply think they overpaid for him when they needed it to upgrade some of that talent on the team. I think the Chiefs had the most attractive offer out there out of all the teams wanting his services.
