Of course it is not "only" tom brady. Dan Marino never won a superbowl- cant do it on your own. However 11-5 and winning the superbowl are two totally different worlds.
My point is that without Tom Brady New England does not turn their franchise around and it had nothing to do with being a "winning" franchise. He made them a winning franchise.

All things considered (and I took multiple weeks to come out in favor of a single candidate), I think I like Kevin Sumlin the best of all candidates. Bill O'Brien would be my second choice.

Also think Art Briles is a great coach and a decent fit. He'd be third on my wish list. Perry Fewell, who has done a fantastic job getting the Giants defense on track this year, would be my fourth choice. Ray Horton (Cleveland DC) would be five.

My top pick for offensive coordinator, pending his availability, would be Joe Philbin. Top pick for DC, also pending his availability, would be Wade Phillips. Or either of the HC candidates above, should they come available.

I don't care for much of this coaching staff, but I'd like to see Raheem Morris and Chris Forester return. I'd also offer Bobby Turner the opportunity to coach RBs under the new staff, though he's been very much tied at Shanahan's hip for a long time.

Was everybody here excited about our last college hire spurrier? Were people on board? Considered probably top 3 coach in college , more known as an offensive genius. I wasn't that excited and thought it might end as a disaster. It did. Im not sure about a college coach.

I don't think there's really any difference between a college coach and a pro coach. There's a wider spread of coaching ability in college because theres more jobs to fill, but your chances of making a bad hire among NFL lifers is the same as making a bad hire among college lifers. Spurrier was a bad hire. So was Shanahan.

But I think that all of the really, really promising coaches are in the college ranks right now. I think a lot of them will find their way into the NFL soon enough. And some will fail. But many will succeed.

Thank you DGreen. While he thinks we should stay the course, he thinks Robert is being misused and ought to be a pocket passer. I don't see how he can want to stay the course and overlook the people who put the system in place?

So u didnt think at the time the best offensive coach in college was a good hire at that time? I'd thin k sumlin would be an extremely risky hire. I don't know if I'd feel good about most. Shaw would my choice if so. Maybe Sabin 2nd.

It's a hindsight criticism. There were no inherent reasons it could not have worked. On the other hand, not even the most devoted Mike Shanahan skeptic could have predicted he would be this inept.

I think every hire is a risky hire, given that Dan Snyder has shown little aptitude to tell the difference between a good interview and a bad interview. Sumlin coaches the offense I would most like to see RG3 in.

Just saying those flavor of the month college offense genius coaches, its a risky option. How's that pistol offense doing this year? Yeah not so great.

The Shanny hire wasnt bad, about getting the house in order more than anything. Organization is in a much better place than it was before. Shanny has alot to do with that. Has it transfered to wins on the field, not exactly which is disappointing. Like I said before, i dont really care if he stays or goes. I just dont want a knee jerk hire which sets us back...and like you said before, this team is not that far off which I believe is true.

Agreed. Its just a numbers game, and that goes both ways. There are hundreds of coaches/ coordinators. There are 32 head coaches in the nfl. I think there are some very promising coaches in the nfl, problem is why would say, one of the Harbaugh brothers, leave to come here? They wouldnt. Coaches in the nfl bounce around usually because they get fired. Its a jump to come to the nfl from college.
Edit: i think the other "promising" HC prospects are some of the OC's and DC's already in the NFL.

Per Darrell Green's comment and the whole running QB issue, it baffles me how anyone who actually watches pro football can be "ok" with the offense. This offense only works if RG is in effect a rotating RB. Defenses dominate us otherwise. They dominate our oline, dominate our receivers and even slow the run game significantly. The whole offensive scheme is based on a running QB, which is flat out asinine when you mortgaged years of the franchise success on that player.

When we at least won some games last year and you could fool yourself into believing this was a serious team I could give people the benefit of the doubt, but now that Mike's back to losing like he has for nearly a decade it blows me away to hear anyone supporting this. We have a garbage defensive scheme/structure, garbage special teams, and a totally unsustainable offense.
