I agree.

It's not like Snyder did it and now is arguing that he complied. He called them up and cleared it. If they said no then I doubt it'd have been a deal at all. He'd wait until the 4th..do a token on Gray and then hire Shanahan. But he asked if he could fast forward that and they said yes. Everyone can get mad at the league but not the Skins. For pete's sake they asked if they could do it.

Exactly...the spirit is a joke anyways. No one has been hired because of the Rooney rule. All it has done is actually put diversity at the forefront...that is a good thing but it hasn't directly led to anyone getting a job they wouldn't have before. so 100% of the time the spirit is trampled on. The rule begs for the spirit to be trampled on.

This whole rooney rule spat is being circulated by Mike Florio. I wish everyday fans could look beyond the blind hatred that most media writers and opionist have for the Redskins owner.

Did you notice on PFT that Florio loves to bring up Redskins vs. Rooney Rule but doesn't even mention the Mike Holmgren hire in Cleveland and whether they followed the Rooney rule. Read between the lines people. We could be 16-0 and the media would still hate. If the Redskins become successful we would represent a Dark Empire/ villian of the NFL.

Well it's not the same situation with the Browns, because Jim Zorn is still employed by the Redskins as head coach. The Browns didn't have a President in place (though I think they did interview minority candidates)

jerry gray should have never done that interview while zorn was still coach. i just dont know what to think since it was reported last week that gray and blache told zorn to his face they didnt interview for the job when things started leaking out.

either way, biz as usual for the DS.

Not to nitpik, but I hate when people use "this happens all the time" as an excuse. Just because it happens all the time, doesn't make it right...

Anyways, Gray interviewing has put him in limbo as far as future coaching opportunities. Which leads me to believe that he's in line to stay with the Redskins. Why jeopardize your future and your reputation if you don't have something lined up?

Gray is the scapegoat for the media and the rule, and Snyder used it to his full advantage to get the guy he wants. It's a win-win as far as Snyder's concerned. And to him, that's all that matters.

I disagree because before he made a stink about the Zorn issue, he made a stink about the bruce allen hire, same imo.

Why are people so mad, the redskins don't need to make their hiring procedures public at all. This is like a blind posting for a job in everyday life. A company may have a person currently in a position that will be getting terminated because he is not doing the job up to par and in anticipation of that move they start to interviewing candidates. Why is it different for NFL coaches?

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

I see. Well regardless of what PFT says, my take is still that the Holmgren situation isn't the same situation as Zorn because the Redskins currently have a head coach. The Browns did not have a President.

All that said, I still don't really have a problem with what the Redskins have done. At the end of the day, if Shanahan brings us what we all want-a Super Bowl trophy-will any of us really care how the cow was slaughtered so long as we get the steak?

It's just a shitty way to do business cause you still have a HC in place and he's getting questioned about it. It makes Zorn look like a fool. It's a bad way to treat people and it's embarassing to the team.

I don't think it is. It's the NFL. Owners/GM's don't wait til after the season to talk to/interview potential candidates w/ a coach who they know is gone. I'd feel worse if they waited til after JZ was fired to start the process.

Hopefully the circus will be over soon and we can expect Mike S to be around for 5+ years.

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal

The Rooney Rule, although noble in theory, is a dog & pony show in practice. Snyder did what he had to do, within the guidlines, to get this technicality out of the way. Sounds like good business navigation to me.

BTW- I do not want a guy who can't sem to teach his unit (defensive backs) how to defend double moves, to be our next head coach. But thank you to Gray for doing us a solid on the Rooney Rule thing.
