Slowick somehow seems to succeed Blache in coaching locations. First in Chicago, now here.

Zone schemes are used by nearly every team to varying degrees.

Re: Coaching Staff update

do any other teams have a DBs coach and a safeties coach? i thought for sure when grey and blache left, we'd be done with that silliness.

Not sure if any other team(s) have the same set-up but it has been reported that Jerry Gray and Steve Jackson had more than their share of differences. Maybe this staff will have a different pecking order where problems between the two position coaches will no longer exist.

I'd imagine every team does, I could be wrong, but it's not like we're unique in having a safeties coach.

Not every team does, but it's not uncommon either

Re: Coaching Staff update

This 49ers OLine was terrible. Probably worst in the NFL (not that ours and Chicago's don't have a similar claim).

As for what that says about Forester...is Bugel a bad coach? His units have been pretty awful recently.

Yeah there are too many variables. Like you mentioned with Bugel.. either he lost something or the FO didn't make it a priority. This could very well be the same situation that happened in SF. O-Line coaches will tell you who they like but they're not even close to the head-honcho on draft day and determining which players to throw money at in FA.

Re: Coaching Staff update

Well keep in mind that the whole time that Shanahan was OC and I believe the year before that Gibbs was in control of the running game, Shanahan became OC just last year and was the QB coach before that. I doubt that Mike would let Kyle drop off the running game less than his standard if he does have an issue with it. It's hard to say with our personnel right now.. and potentially next year, if our running game would be that hot anyways. If we do switch our primary blocking scheme it may take awhile to develop anyways. They had injuries like we did this year too.. pro bowl TE, 2 guards, starting RB, etc

Re: Coaching Staff update

Someone else said it (first) and it's pretty wise: an incoming coach w/ something to prove can be a great thing. Haslett, though his resume is unimpressive, seems like that guy. Not sure about Forrester (I'll spell his name like the ugly Subaru ). What does he have to prove? Hard to say.

Exhibit A: Gregg Williams.

Why hasn't Brian Billick gotten job interviews? Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge Billick fan, I'm just wondering. But he does have a positive track record which includes a Super Bowl win. Gailey and Carroll have never won Super Bowls. Why does Billick get no love?

In todays NFL the trend is to hire coaches that have never won a Super Bowl since coaches have never been able to win a Super Bowl with two different teams at least as a Head Coach. Hopefully Coach Mike will break that trend and if he doesn't then at least his son should be a great candidate to succeed his father. Only problem is he might be a little young when his father retires (my guess around 35).
