Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Also, people forget that JDM was just a guy when we signed him. I'm glad he worked out the way he did. It sucks losing him, but I'm sure his injury gave the team a pause.....

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
We need to def add a RB now. My choice
D’Onta Foreman: The former Texans third-round pick didn’t work out in Houston but when the Titans needed him in 2021, Foreman came through. He rushed for 566 yards on 133 carries (4.3) and is another big back who can run hard between the tackles. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of contract Foreman gets. He won’t turn 26 until April.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
JDM's deal is 2 years and $7 million. For the kind of production he's provided, that is worth it (. Wish we'd have done something like it. Even coming off the injury, I think he would have been worth that risk. In 2 years (and 27 games), he racked up over 1500 yds receiving and 7 TDs. He was essentially responsible for the wins v. ATL and NYG (1st one) last year. I read a report that said we didn't even make him an offer. Bah.

Kinda surprised that we didn't even try to bring JDM back.. Although I wonder if it has to do with Wentz since he isn't well known for checking down. Or the coaches really like Patterson.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I'm sure it's a combination of factors - the new QB, his injury, the offensive game plan moving forward, etc. It's production that can be replaced and then some if this offense gets rolling the way S Turner wants it to with his new QB.

Also seen it noted , by Keim, that they apparently love the backs in the draft so that may be the ultimate reason

Ben Standig @BenStandig · 42m J.D. McKissic is headed to Buffalo after Washington let the RB test free agency. That much is apparent. However, the Commanders believed their opportunity to match an offer would come. From the view of a source close to the situation, it did not. |

He clearly was not a priority.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
JDM got decent money to play for a team that will absolutely be in the post-season barring something catastrophic injury-wise. The same cannot be said for us, sadly. Until we become one of those teams, this is the kind of thing that will continue to happen.

Particularly if they don't even make an opening offer

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Honestly, they will be fine without JDM. AG is solid, Jaret Patterson is fully capable, and there are a number of other RBs out there that can spell AG and catch the ball out of the backfield. Remember AG was a receiver in college...
Once Wentz was signed, JDM's role (TH's security blanket) wasn't going to be the same anyway. He's a nice player, and I hope he does well in Buffalo. |

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I am not so much bothered by the loss of McKissic, as you say he is not that difficult to replace, but I am perplexed by the operation of the FO. Now it could be that the local beat reporters are way off the mark but that is not the general impression I get. The report stated they were expecting to get an opportunity to match an offer, but it didn't happen. They misjudged the situation and it seems from reports that they didn't make an offer to any (?) of our pending free agents which I think would be viewed as a slight by some. The timing of the McCain signing might also suggest that they realised that they got it wrong and quickly pivoted to resign McCain.

Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Who knows. In early March, Mayhew said he wanted Cam Sims, JD McKissic, and Bobby McCain back if deals can be agreed on. So far he got one of the three to come back. You can't keep them all, and they have to prioritize.
