And it wasn’t a shot at Alex smith, but the down field passing game tends to open up when you have the NFL’s leading rusher in your backfield. Opponents tend play more one and one on the outside and stack the line.

Also you have obviously more options in the red zone when you run the ball effectively.

It’s really simple...not shedding light on anything new. It’s not a shock the eagles lead the league in rushing.
I think last year actually showed we have pretty good depth on the line, but we do need a starting caliber LG. We will certainly draft one but don't know he would be before round 4.

Hmmm... not sure I agree with this entirely. Spencer Long was high quality depth and he's gone. Ty N. is a very good swing tackle, but injuries are becoming a concern and he's getting up there in age. Kouandjo (sp?) is ok depth, but they let him walk last year and only brought him back when the s hit the fan. Hopefully these younger guys can be coached up, but depth is definitely a ? I think they need to replace some depth guys, but I think you're right that last year was just more proof that they can.

The line concerns me to a point, for the reasons you cited. That said, we have pretty consistently found good o line depth and coached them up, even last year when decimated buy injuries, they managed to get serviceable production from guys off of the street.

I really hope we draft a G in the first 3 rounds, but if we do, I'm pretty confident they will be able to find depth late in the draft and udfa.

Agreed.

One solution, if they have a prospect they like, would be to draft a center high, and slide Roullier to LG.

Actually last year, the depth (Catalina, kalis, kujo, bergstrom, tj clemmings) that came in to replace ailing starters were mostly terrible. Nsekhe was injuried and bad when he played. The drafted rookie who came into starting lineup wasn’t great either.

Just saying maybe they can be coached up, but the depth was really bad last year along the Oline.

This.. everyone keeps saying how bad we need a RB, including our front office. I disagree. If you have a o-line then backs can be found. The Ravens picked up Alex Collins off the scrap heap and he almost had a 1,000 yards plus a 4.6 average. I'd prefer we draft Nelson from Notre Dame if he's BPA when we pick. Apparently he's an elite run blocker and we couldn't get a half a yard when needed. O-line was the staple of what use to win around here. Remember Doug?

That's very true although even you must admit, our RBs beside Thompson are lacking in playmaking dept. I would be fine with drafting Nelson if he's there when it's our time to pick someone but I don't see how it can happen.

Edit: I would not oppose to the idea of trading back so we can pick up 3rd round pick and draft a guard. Don't forget we have Callahan; I say we follow whatever he wants to do - if he wants to go with a UFA rookie then so be it.

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018

We had a pretty hard time stopping the run last year. But when Allen was healthy we rushed the passer well. I for one am glad to see the more well rounded skill set in McPhee.

I was all about Galette, but then saw how poor he was against the run. Just not stout enough to set an edge.

The Broncos still might cut CJ Anderson in a salary cap move. He is a very good all-around back, IMO. Hopefully, the Skins might see if they can make a trade with Denver to pick him up.

If we somehow could land Q Nelson, our problems would be solved on the OLINE, But that isn't going to happen. I am surprised we haven't looked at sitton yet.

Little to no chance Nelson falls that far but he would certainly be a no brainer for us.

This seems like a fair evaluation of all the OL players we had last year.

https://riggosrag.com/2018/01/12/gra...nemen-in-2017/

It is a bit of a click bait article, but he does do a write up and evaluation on every OL that played for the Skins last year

Fansided? FFS. Lol come on bro

You ever listened to Cooley Oline break downs after games? Brutally honest...the interior Oline (outside of the obvious) was fucking garbage. Starters and depth.
